KingJoseph Edwards "not" in the portal

Bored Come On GIF

In order for a player to enter the portal during this new window, a team has to name that person "designated student-athlete," which is limited to players that teams don't want to count against the 105-player roster limit.

I'm sure there's a reason.

No point in forcing KJE to stay another season if he's not happy or he's not working out.

This sucks because you want to see this guy succeed and at Syracuse. I think today was just a confirmation what some already knew that it’s not going to happen here especially this upcoming season, which is what it is. Hopefully, someone else gives him the opportunity and he can become that successful player there.

Yeah SU Dad clued everyone in. The young man was in Fran’s doghouse at times, clearly has some personal stuff to work through. Talented kid, hope everything works out for him. He was one of the few players who didn’t sleepwalk through the Holy Cross game, gotta give him props there!

That’s too bad. Good kid - hope it works out for him whereever he lands.

Ugh. I had successfully purged it from my memory and from worrying about it, but now I do remember reading those SUDadx2 comments. Never good to lose a 4 star talent. Seemed like he could have been very impactful if he was able to gain a bit more weight and strength.

Makes me think its even more likely that Kevin Jobity plays DE this season. Adding a couple of the freshman to the list, this looks like our DE options for 2025.

Jobity
Jacquez
Reese
Omapariola
Simmons
Jaylen Pray - FR
Haleem Muhammad - FR
Nyandro - FR

Edit- Add Nyandro FR and remove Pray as he came in heavier than I thought at 280 lbs.

yea, I've heard a little bit about the expectations laid down for Cook even...and doesn't sound like Fran messes on the culture front even for talented kids.

I've watched several interviews with Fran Brown. In more than one, he talks about how he makes ZERO allowances when it comes to his rules.

He communicates the rules during the recruiting process, and makes sure that the players / their families are clear about the requirements.

If a player wants to break those rules, then [per Fran] than they must think he's a sucker... and he's no sucker.

Does this mean that players hailed as the Second Coming last year have been overtaken by other players or is this a NIL issue?

Given King Joseph is leaving and Chase Simmons is going to take reps at tight end, it seems we're not short talented bodies on the DL. Maybe he couldn't handle DART, maybe he was blocked by some better players, maybe he wanted to be closer to home... maybe some of all of the above. KJE certainly helped kick off Fran's first recruiting class and had a legendary 4th quarter against Holy Cross but given he didn't see the field much the rest of the year, his future may be brighter somewhere else. After we just pulled Calvin Russell, I don't worry about finding the someone to replace him.

Reese was a nice add.

He's going to play a lot. See him in a similar role as Diggs last year -- some hands down, some where he starts standing up. Versatile.

I’m worried about DE even before this departure. We have some 3-down players but not very many pass-rushing specialists. Hope I’m wrong.

ugh, had forgotten about this risk, especially with all the big positive recruiting news.

wish him the best. I am worried about the D-line. We had too many injuries and not enough folks there last year, and shrinking the number of folks there doesn't help any of course.
