Kline exposes Autry's flaws

That's right.

We need to first have a system, then recruit to the system so that a foundation / nucleus of guys who are good players are in place, and then SUPPLEMENT that nucleus with intelligent portal additions.

Problem is, we DON'T have a system or a foundation of guys who can play.

Which is why hoping that just throwing extra $$$ at the problem is going to make it go away is a futile fantasy.
Remember when we had a prototypical Syracuse Forward? Who was the last one? Fair? Coincidence that we haven’t been good since?

At least it's a little more above board now

I just can't believe schools and players can't commit to each other for more than a year
The problem is that there is nothing that can bind the kid to the school because the school isn't paying them, and, by the rule, it isn't pay for play. So, when someone comes along with a better "endorsement" deal, they are free to leave.

Maybe when the schools start paying directly there will be a way to structure some stability, but I bet there will still be on out for the player, and NIL deals will dwarf what the schools pay and still run the show.

What 5 additional games is this team winning if Starling and Freeman were both healthy all year? They weren’t playing well even when the whole team was healthy early in the season.

Also, a vast majority of teams have some type of injuries. For instance, you could say Syracuse might have won at ND if Starling was playing, but ND also had their top scorer out for that game. So we can’t just discount their injuries and play “what if” with Syracuse.
It was just a general guess, as JJ would have been in better shape and Donnie was progressing.

I look at ND, Georgetown, Florida State, Stanford, and Miami as games we could/should have won.

we need a sugar daddy. Don't know the inside tea about Weitsman but he was shaping up nicely to be our T. Boone Pickens like at Okie State. Again, don't know the details but his banishment was huge. JMHO

T. Boone Pickens donating almost $650 million to Oklahoma State U.

Let's not even begin to compare Adam W to becoming a potential T. Boone Pickens.

Ok State doesn't really have all that much football success or basketball even to show for it.

Carlos is tiny and shot .318 from 3 playing on a team in the coastal athletic conference

Lampkin had 34 blocks at tcu and Colorado

Davis shot 246 from three at Delaware

Taylor was 11th on the Georgia State team in defensive rating

This is three minutes of work

I know these aren't first choices but given who you already have, what in the hell are they doing?

Kline or pretty much anyone in that role will have to be helpful but autry has still got to go, the guy making millions is going to still decide and he might be as bad at roster building as he is at lineups

How can you know how to defend other teams if you're this bad at knowing what you need?
Well, JB’s best class ever left a lot to be desired.

Jerami Grant. But he didn't stick around long enough to have an impact. Tyler Lydon may also fit the mold, but he also left too soon to matter and had to play out of position as JB struggled to manage the roster in the changing era. I think those two guys were a big reason why JB stopped recruiting high potential development guys.

Grant and Fair left together. Lydon doesn’t fit the mold. McCullough might have if he didn’t get injured.

Edit

Re Lydon: I love Hak but he wasn’t the prototype either. Great players but different types than your do it all guys.

yeah in a lot of ways that '13/14 season really was the end of good Syracuse

Part of things too was the hope JJ's evolution to a 1 was going to be more apparent than it has been
Before the season many said JJ was not a point guard. The only thing apparent about JJ’ s “evolution” is that pg is an extinct position at SU (this year)

He would be out of our price range, other teams would pay him more than $1M
Last year? He didn’t leave UAB and he’s not getting that to stay there. He stayed because his relationship with the coach. Hes out of eligibility and played himself into the back of the draft.
