Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

I think he is like the Purdue kid who is with the Raiders.
That’s actually pretty fair. He is better than the Purdue gunslinger though I think, but actually very comparable in regards to accuracy, arm talent, and being just mobile enough.

Its easy to sit here and say...that if we get the top bowl or 2 with an intriguing matchup I would play if I was in McCords shoes.
Go out there and sling it, dont take any unnecessary risks, play smart and hopefully put up some huge numbers with a W.
It could help him in the draft, prove he is a great leader and show that his character is top notch.
Who knows?

After seeing what happened to Carson Beck yesterday with Georgia, I would be very very surprised if McCord plays now.

If he was on the fence, that may have him error on the side of caution.

The first time I felt like I had a window into McCord's personality as a football player and leader was while I was watching the ACC documentary that aired during Fall camp. There was a that clip showed McCord and a few of the receivers after practice working on end zone routes. After McCord threw a pass he yelled to the receiver something like- finish the rep, always finish the rep. McCord's body language changed when he yelled that and his tone was strong if not a bit peeved. I had already been very excited about McCord being QB1 for the Cuse, and after that I could hardly wait until the first game. I also made plans to see the Georgia Tech game in the Dome.

Another Fall camp moment that was different (there were many) was when the ACC Network Fall camp roadshow stopped by the Cuse camp. They had JB on to talk football, and JB is widely known to enjoy football. And JB said something like- Kyle McCord may not be good enough for Ohio State, but he is definitely good enough for Syracuse. And then JB showed a lot of excitement about what he was seeing with this Cuse team. The ACC crew laughed and smiled about McCord, but at that time the ACC media had McCord ranked something like the 9th best QB in the league so I don't think JB's comments made much of an impression on them other than JB being a homer for Cuse football. Well, make no mistake JB knows ball both on the hardwood and on the gridiron.

The criticism of McCord from Ohio State fans was always overblown, and I think the past two seasons have exposed how unhinged some of that fan base can be. Unfortunately those unhinged OSU fans are the loudest among that fan base. They were so loud apparently that they shaped the preseason minds of the media around the ACC. And all the while Kyle McCord never changed, stayed focused, and led this Cuse team. McCord always seems to say the right thing and it feels very authentic and it must be because his actions are always golden too. I think Coach Fran said in an interview or in the ACC documentary that in his first meetings with McCord as the SU QB his main goal was to get McCord to relax and have fun again. McCord didn't have to call coach sir or something along those lines. Coach Fran knocked it out of the park. We all saw McCord blossom in many ways, and I think he not only gave us all a lot of joy this season but he had a lot of joy himself too.

A couple of other preseason highlights that stood out among many was the way this team embraced community service. I saw a lot of pics and some footage of guys doing community service in the snow clearing trash from sidewalks, going door-to-door to speak with residents, visiting hospitals etc. The players always seemed grounded, present, and humble being of service. And being of service brings that out so seeing that I felt for sure that they were invested. The other thing is that during the Spring Semester, coach Fran's first semester on campus, the football team reportedly had the highest team GPA ever. In my eyes that was no small feat, and I think that collective attention to detail showed up on the gridiron too.

Go Cuse !!

And his boot camp preseason approach bonded the team together.

Kyle has already committed to play in a bowl game - not ours yet, but this one:

AT&T Stadium
Shriners Children's officials have announced that the 100th edition of the iconic East-West Shrine Bowl will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, and be nationally televised in prime time on NFL Network
.

I hope he does well.

Kyle is IMO, the best pro-style QB to ever play for Syracuse. Smart, reads defenses well, has a great throwing motion and great mechanics, delivers the ball quickly always in a tight spiral. He excels throwing medium range passes but can throw long balls with accuracy and can add touch to the ball on short routes. He throws hard balls but balls that are easily caught by his receivers. His calm demeanor under center or in a shotgun and leadership skills are also a plus for him.

When in trouble, Kyle is mobile enough to get out of tough situations and make positive yardage. What does not help is a poor offensive line letting any quarterback get sacked.

Fran was asked in his press conference a few minutes ago if Kyle was playing and he was pretty adamant he was and also most of the other guys, but we will see.

It's kinda interesting reading the board right now. Prior to McCord arriving we had been dealing with inconsistent play at that QB position over the years with some occasional good and excitement versus frequent frustration due somewhat frequently to injuries.
In comes Fran, McCord, Nixon with a new offense, philosophy and approach. Reeling in McCord who was a unicorn for us in that a number of things fortuitously fell into place for him to arrive and then pretty much crushed it. Led the NCAA in yards with over 4,000 passing yards this year. Had outrageous poise in the pocket, effortlessly threw the ball.
Now it's the offseason, McCord is moving on and some Syracuse fans ended the season with caviar appetites. It would seem none of the players visiting or rumored interested in Syracuse are good enough to come here. I mean really? I get it, especially after Fran's presser today and how he talked about finding another McCord BUT to some folks you can't hate everyone. People might need to readjust a smidge. I trust after McCords year that plenty of QBs will be interested in Syracuse. I trust Fran and Nixon to find the right guy to lead again next year. He may not be exactly like McCord and that's just fine. Next year will be another fun year!

Agree. It was nice having a QB that threw an incredibly catchable ball and for that we may be a bit spoiled but your point remains, the staff will find a guy that works to help this team win games.

I mean he threw a dime on the first drive of the second half (second play?) for a 50 yard pass and then followed it up with a 25 yard TD pass. How much further does he have to throw it?
It’s not how far he throws it…the issue will be the exit velocity out of his hand which they measure. It’s the quick arm strength needed for those long 10-15 yard sideline throws, the zip in the underneath under the cover 2 etc

McCord's zip is fine and in-line!
I’m not saying it’s not. Im just saying how he will judged. Mechanically I think his only issue will be his low setup. It’s slower and can lead to the high ball. I think he’s at least Purdy good

Purdy good? I am huge fan McCord, probably my second favorite Syracuse QB behind McNabb and i hope he has a long NFL career, but I don't think he is ready to be a NFL starter, especially a top 15 NFL starter. Hopefully I am wrong.

I think it's in the middle.
Most people realize that McCord was unusually good and recreating his stats is not a reasonable expectation.
But people also realize that this team can do better than accept any decent QB who is in the portal and agrees to go to SU.
There are more options available to SU. I think it's reasonable for fans to realize we're not the ugly duckling right now.

TBH, the only thing that matters is what FB and the OC think.

It’s will be interesting to see if Fran’s “old ways of then world” routine works in todays game…or he just runs into brick walls
Hes walking a tightrope and unless he’s sure everyone has bought in it’s dangerous to set the kids up as the bad guys here. Could blow up in his face.

Agree to a degree with you but it's the fans who are saying the QB Fran and Nixon are bringing in are not good enough. The players are seemingly good enough for Fran and Nixon but not the fans. If you heard Fran's presser yesterday I have no concerns he views SU as the ugly duckling. Fran and Nixon have earned some credit after the season we had to bring in who they want and trust that they are bringing in the right player (s).
