Kyle McCord to NFL Draft

Just saw Kyle and the SU guys in the E/W Shrine practice #2. Practices are held daily 9:30 to 12:30 until the game on the 30th. Live stream available at this link

For the East, Kyle is wearing his SU number (6) in a red (QB) jersey. Offense (blue jerseys) include Meeks (87) and Gadsden (19). Defense is in white, including Diggs (10) and Cinco (25). Haven't seen Barron, but lots of SU helmets getting reps.

The SU guys all looked good. Gadsden had some nice routes and catches. Meeks caught a sweet pass over the top on a sideline post in tight coverage. Diggs is playing well, getting penetration and showing his speed. Kyle is running with the East "ones" (along with Meeks and Gadsden). Lots of paeans from the announcers. His passing has been on point. As the day closed, one of the players yelled out, "Kyle mother-ph McCord!". Respect.
Barron is playing in the Senior Bowl.

Kyle McCord, messes around and found himself in the first round.
He's making something challenging look easy, given that these practices involve guys he's never played with, running plays he has on his wrist with very little prep. Didn't watch the West QBs, but the other East QB's (#7, #8) clearly aren't on the same level. LOL to Sanders not participating. It's not totally unexpected given that he's projected high in the first round (Giants eyeing him). But still .. what's he afraid of (KM?).

This may be reminiscent of Jeff George, overhyped, refused to work out with others, held private workouts: Fantastic measurables, zero intangibles, gained a big dollar contract and was a colossal flop.

I think Sanders may not be the head case that George was but Sanders was not sufficient to make everyone around him better the same was McCord does. Like you said, "What's he afraid of?"

I think he’s smart to not compete at these events. Best case, he reinforces the already lofty evaluation of his skills, which doesn’t necessarily improve his draft position. Worst case, he is exposed and drops like a rock.

You are probably correct from a marketing perspective. However, from a competitive perspective, this makes Sanders appear afraid to compete.

Going back to Jeff George, he was highly regarded out of college, but when he could have been exposed, he refused. It will be interesting to see how the pro scouts interpret his inactions and his hype. For his sake, I hope Sanders proves up, especially if the Giants are really high on him. Nevertheless, I remain skeptic, partly because of his father's self-hype capabilities and partly because Sanders didn't make others better like McCord.

* At East practice, Kyle McCord showed he is the most physically gifted quarterback at Shrine practices. He has excellent stature and a big arm. He wasn't perfect but the physical gifts were obvious. His teammates were Orande Gadsden Jr. (6-4, 247) and Jackson Meeks (6-2, 216). Meeks is a strong wide receiver that played through a defensive pass interference penalty to catch a deep ball down the sideline.

What have most of the recent high end prospects done? Daniels, Burrows, Fields, etc.

Apparently he was asked to not play and I guess that extends to workouts. Seems a bit strange but I guess they don’t want him to get hurt.

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, won't participate in practice or play in the East-West Shrine Bowl. Furthermore, each of the teams selecting in the top three of the draft (Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Brownsand New York Giants) asked Sanders not to play, supporting a decision he had previously made, according to Yahoo Sports.

Understandable. However, his quotation is interesting: “I’m not ducking. I ain’t hiding. I’m right here live in the flesh.” In the flesh but not on the field - doing a lot of talking (chip off the old block). It's fine. BOL to him. I'm rooting for Kyle.

So does that mean all the experts that had him so far down the boards never really watched him the last 2 yrs? I do think the offense we ran this year showed much more of his skill set than what OSU was doing.

I haven't looked it up but I don't believe the top QB's usually play in the post season all star bowls any more. I am pretty sure none of them said they would play in one and then go to it and opt out of practicing or playing but pretending they are part of it any how. Whatever team draft Sanders is delaying their come back for at least 3 years.

2025 East-West Shrine Bowl Practice Notes Day, 1

Throughout the early portion of practice in 1- on -1’s, 7 on 7’s and team, Syracuse QB Kyle McCord was really impressive. The ball jumped out of this hand with ease, and he had great accuracy and placement time and time again. He was ripping throws left and right and putting the ball pretty much wherever he wanted.

He had a great throw down the field to Syracuse teammate and TE Oronde Gadsden , throwing across his body to the left sideline putting the ball on a string to his weapon. Great start to his time at the Shrine Bowl.

Love when the NFL guys that somehow don't watch a game of college football during the regular season all of the sudden start giving their opinions. I never understand that.
To wit Charles Barkley during the NCAA tournament.

It's interesting because you have the NFL guys talking about prospects they barely watched in college but then you have college guys talking that focus so much about a guy's college performance but seem clueless as to how skillsets will translate to the pros.

And can we just get rid of Herm Edwards? Regardless of whether he talks about pros or college he is nothing more than a cliche machine. He may know football, but he doesn't communicate it on TV.

That's laughable if you're serious. I mean, how many guaranteed top 5 NBA picks go to the combine? Why would a consensus Top 5 NFL draft pick, and probable #1, no worse than #3, take any risk ($$$) whatsoever. It would be amazingly foolish, and anyone that would advise him otherwise should be fired in a heartbeat.

You being any attorney, think of it this way. Would you ever advise against bifurcating a trial case where the liability against your client is nil, however the damages are catastrophic? And, in a pure comparative negligence state. Or, would you say screw it, because you don't want to come across as afraid and not confident in your skills.
