KYRA WOOD - CITY HONORS SCHOOL, BUFFALO, NY TRANSFER FROM TEMPLE TO SU
6' 3"
Wood’s parents urged her to stick with basketball. Hollice was confident that Kyra was capable of reaching the next level. She began to see that she wasn’t receiving the same type of attention in volleyball, so she fully committed herself to basketball.
As a result, she averaged 32 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks per game as a sophomore and scored 1,000 career points after a 44-point game.
Despite those impressive numbers, Kyra felt she wasn’t receiving the attention she deserved. So, she took it personally and used it as fuel to work harder. She played on several AAU teams, including the Albany City Rocks, the Philly Belles and the Buffalo Lakers, which gave her more exposure.
As a junior, Wood averaged 25.9 points, 12.2 rebounds and 4.3 blocks and received offers from several Division I schools, including Buffalo, Siena, St. Bonaventure and Temple.
The versatile Buffalo native gained experience, confidence and maturity before transferring from Temple to Syracuse.
