For those are already to move on from Red

Rankings are meaningless this early in the season.

Again, Westry’s issues right now don’t have anything to do with his knees. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Its getting late early on the rankings front. Its hard to climb, and its really hard to put together a resume with several of your best Q1 - Q2 OOC opportunities behind you...

Great people and great assistant coaches don't always make the best head coaches. There is nothing wrong with that. We need to accept that and move on. You can give Red 10 years it doesn't matter it will not work. After almost a year and a half of coaching, he has given Syracuse no identity on either end of the court. We do nothing well from year to year. Syracuse shouldn't be a place where someone "figures out" how to coach.

Open the checkbook and get a real coach. There are a couple in the Big East that we can and should be able to poach.
I’m not saying that Red will work out or that there aren’t issues. But for the contrarian view… How many posters on here for years have mocked Jeff Capel for being a terrible head coach (just a good recruiter)? But with a few years and a chance to build his program, Pitt has had two top 4 ACC finishes and made the NCAA tourney and is currently a top 15 team headed for its best season yet under Capel. I’m not saying we should struggle through four bad seasons with Red (like Pitt did with Capel). I don’t know if I can handle that, and there are talented, proven head coaches who I think would leap at this job. But sometimes a little patience is required.

We are in our 11th year of mediocre to bad regular seasons. I'm not wasting money to fly up to Syracuse and spend $600 on a hotel and ubers and food/drinks for a weekend to watch this product.
JB staying on too long and the advent of NIL were timed horribly.

We need our fanbase engaged but they are at their least engaged in the last 44 years.

Dakota Leffew.
Don’t understand the great love for Leffew, as if he’d be the answer at point. He’s not a point. He’s a combo at best. He can shoot, but he’s 3rd on Georgia in assists, and only averages 3 assists to 1.6 turnovers. If we got him, we’d be hearing the same type of complaint ints we had with Mintz, that he’s too invested in his own shot and not looking to create for others. Get over him.

His talent evaluation and roster construction are a bigger concern for me.

Too many busts in the portal not enough youth. The portal is there to add depth not to carry your team.

We were better off bringing in 4 quality HS kids and going young. Instead he brought in only 2 along with 3 kids from low level conferences. It made no sense 6 months ago and even less now.

We lack talent and have pieces that don’t fit. If he has a plan to fix that it better be a good plan. Because what he has done thus far leaves a lot to be desired.

We really should be getting 3-4 HS kids each class. He seems to think the portal is the answer when it is not. Especially when your program has been irrelevant the last decade. Kids need a reason to come here. Not playing in the NCAAs isn’t one of them.

Our biggest gap to fill is at pg. with a good pg we are a 20 win team imo. If Chance can step up and play to his potential then we have a chance at saving the season. And by saving the season i mean maybe a 20 win team with double digit losses.

I'm beginning to believe that players like Bell need to sit go with the younger players. If Westry can play put him on the floor. If JJ can come back he joins Moore, Freeman, and Westry in the starting lineup.

Jeff Capel was a head coach long before he came to PITT. So he had experience and winning records at other stops. He didn't "learn" how to be a head coach at PITT.

"VCU, Capel guided the Rams to a record number of wins (79) and the highest winning percentage (.658) of any Division I program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Following the 2003–04 season, Capel was named both the Richmond Times-Dispatch and VaSID state Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1996."

Overall record at VCU was 79-41 with 2 tournament appearances

"Entering his fourth year, Capel's record at OU was 69–33 (0.676) overall, 28–20 (0.583) conference, with 2 NCAA Tournament Appearances, and one Elite Eight appearance. In the Big 12, Capel had yet to win a Conference tournament Title or Regular Season Title. Capel was averaging 21 wins per season (21–12) and 8 conference wins per season (8–8), almost on track with his predecessors Tubbs & Sampson."

Overall record at OK was 96-69 with 2 tournament appearances

This buys you some time but for RED he doesn't have the history of being a successful head coach at other stops.

Heh, at this point he probably should be. Red’s giving him a longer leash than most are comfortable with.
There isn't a player on this roster without a long leash except for Moore and Cuffe.

When was the last time Chance played point guard? 3 years ago in high school before knee surgeries on two different knees?

If he is even a thought at point guard, which isn't even his position, I'd like to know who in their right mind thinks this is even a passable option?

Capel also started at Pitt in 2018 following an 8-win season by Pitt. Instant transfers and NIL didn't start until 2021 and didn't pick up until 2022. He was expected to start slow and build back up the program. Not the case starting in 2023 like Red, especially at Syracuse.

I hear what Sherman20 is saying though - it looked like he couldn't coach and now he's winning. I hope Red can show us the same. The problem is what we're seeing with our eyes looks like fundamental coaching failures that shouldn't happen, and we can't afford to be absolutely positive with a 5-year sample size before making a move. The Cuse brand, and college basketball as a whole, aren't in the spot for that.

I’m just stating a fact: Carlos was brought in to backup Leffew. We have no idea how Leffew would have done here.

Melo and friends NIL money could be key though. That’s probably as important as the recruits.
can we get an advance on next year's NIL?
can we sign someone mid-season?

He came in the game at pg so there goes that.

Jb has the knowledge but got too old to put the work in.
JB is not an NIL guy which is essential to managing modern college basketball rosters. That's not his era. It's like asking one of your grandparents (who was brilliant in other ways) to set up a Wifi extender in your house.

This has nothing to do with NIL its about putting the right pieces together on the court in which Red said he’s still trying to figure out multiple times.

There goes what? You think it's a winning move?

Read my post, if you're relying on a forward who hasn't played point guard since high school and has had two knee surgeries on different knees and hasn't even been a rotation player in college and hasn't even played in a competitive game in 2 years then you shouldn't have a job.

May sound stupid to you, but you should probably recheck your thinking and ask yourself how it makes sense.

Not for nothing broski but he’s listed as a guard. And he’s probably better now at pg after not playing for a couple years than Carlos is.

After 3 mins, the first he’s played in 2 years? Carlos is not good enough for this level but Chance being better right now is a hot take.

No doubt. He’s got more potential and is more of a threat right now than Carlos will ever be.

You got that right. I'm a grandpappy. I had my 12-year-old granddaughter set up my wifi.
