Lemon quote on the fans

Give it a break. I've gone to games and donated to the program long before you were probably even born. If you think everything is always peaches and cream, I'll just chalk it up to ignorance of facts.

You can pull the old man card on me, that's probably true. But the ignorance of facts, I won't accept that. You just choose to find things to b*tch and moan about. Others on the board have asked for a laundry list of how the SUAD is attempting to screw the man. You've failed to come up with a legit list (Atleast a list that doesn't include the poor usage of the new ribbon boards)

Northwestern is the same size as of '10, Wake draws just over 30k ( and this is in an extremely vibrant area), BC is at 38k in a major metropolitan area, Duke can't draw flies, Vandy is in football paradise(as has been discussed) and still draws but 32k. You're wiggling and twisting but your argument is all over the map. We'll surpass Wake and probably BC in just a couple of years, economy be damned.
Do some research and you will a lot of unfilled stadiums. BC is the 5th best private school as far as % capacity and it is at 86%. Their stadium is apparently about the size of ours. I would guess that had USC been in the dome, we would be averaging about 33-35k per game this year. You are not going to sell out with Stoney playing. I think that having the big names out of the dome is partly what Bees and others are saying. These are the games that even casual fans will turn out for and the diehards deserve to see them without having to drive 11 hours. The NY area alumni have had a chance and will probably get another but they need to put up or stop blaming the CNYers.

you lost me at wiggling and twisting and my argument has been all over the map.

a. the only argument i have made is that the 50 mile radius around syraucse can not support a football program. LET ME REITERATE FOR YOU. MY ONLY ARGUMENT IS AGAINST THE ING SYRACUSE ECONOMY NOT SUPPORTING A FOOTBALL PROGRAM. I AM NOT WIGGLING, TWISTING OR CHANGING 1 ING TUNE.

i dont give a flying about private school, paradise for a football program, alumni base blah blah blah. if knoxville tennessee can support a 109,000 seat stadium - than i dont want to hear excuses why syracuse cant support an arena of a football field. it is nothing but excuses - especially if you bring in differences in culture. ISNT THAT THE GOAL? to change the culture to fill the seats?

b. the post in which you responded to, was not even an argument on my part. i listed a few schools off of the top of my head and asked you a question.

why are you so defensive?

also, i dont live in NYC (obviously) and i dont just blame CNY'ers. i blame everyone. students, cny'ers and alums. they are all HORRIBLE. that is the culture of syracuse fan hood. and the reason why lemon had every right to call out the fans.

thank you for the support over the years bees. but why would you play the old man in this?

The 100 posts in this thread have been swell. It's a nice re-hast of every attendance argument that has been made here for the last 8 years.

That being said, it doesnt change the fact that Lemon should be focused on his and the team's performance. Leave the fan stuff to Gross and the Assistant ADs.

Don't confuse the word focus with merely an observation Lemon made, especially when it was so obvious. It appeared to me he was rather focused on the game as I recall him making some nice grabs and don't recall any drops or lapses in concentration while on the field.

At the end of the day, if you are a Cuse fan who lives in CNY and it is gameday, what really keeps you from going to the game? Even if you balked on season tickets this year (for good reasons with the line up they had and no USC, I think USC should have been included in the season ticket package) you could have walked up on gameday and gotten seats. And who leaves before the game? Lemon wasn't talking about with 5 minutes left. He was talking about leaving at halftime. That is what he pathetic. Where are you going? Did Kahunaville re-open in the mall? Honestly, I do not understand what would keep people who paid tickets for a game to not stay until atleast the 4th quarter.

You and JeremyCuse need to take a field trip to South Campus/SkyTop area. The Fine Lot is not the only place on campus to park your vehicle. And again, for the 50th time, they are building academic buildings/housing in that part of campus, you know, for the betterment of the University. This supersedes your ability to park your car where you want for a football game.

Actually I have no problem right now where I park and never have.

Knowledge and experience about the decisions that have been made over many years.

There are 100's of decisions made every year by the athletic department. I only complain about the ones I don't agree with. Just because some want to think the athletic department or football program never makes a bad decision based on blind faith, doesn't make it true. And not all my complaints apply specifically to me nor cause me to bail, but do apply to the fanbase in general.

A whole 11 months ago we drew 45,000 against West Virginia.

These attendance threads are fukking stupid.

We win, we'll draw.

That's it.

Now everyone shut the hell up about it.

CNY simply doesn't deserve a high-level football team.

That's not true but I do believe that we as a fan base better start showing up for these games because this is embarrassing. If you care about the football program show up and stay to the end. I understand some had to leave because they had little kids and one passed out dead asleep right in front of us but this stupid upstate vs downstate or townie vs alum thing is juvenile. All I see from these threads are people drawing lines in the sand and it reminds of the moronic liberal vs conservative debates and I never see anyone win those things, you just believe what you believe and you just give up listening to what the other side is trying to say. This is about helping the program and Marrone and his staff must be the best recruiters in the country because if they can recruit talent with this type of support, they are doing one hell of a job.

Winning just hides the problem. I think I've been around this board long enough to remember at least 2-3 cycles of we are going to being back in 5 years thinking. Fans will be back when we win junk. Winning is only going to get harder in the ACC.

Kiss cam / dancing...people want to be part of the product. They want it to be an experience. I've noticed changes but I still think the University stinks at building a football culture. The disconnect between the hill and the community is ridiculous.

People build a football culture.

People in the south and midwest don't need their schools to do anything, they do it themselves.

actually, CNYers think its their god given right to have a high-level football team and it when it doesnt meet their expectations they shlit on it.

a bunch of thin skinned idiots 'left' when Buzz told them to get a life???...GOOD, STAY AWAY.

a bunch of eedeeots were offended when Jake talked about being the only horse in town and they 'left'...GOOD, STAY AWAY.

they want to pick the Fn schedule, they want to pick the Fn teams to play, they want to pick the offense which is run and none can figure out if the game is on tv.

to hell with em.

Oh Lord

LOL myself and Bees are the least of the problems, we actually go to games, donate, and travel to see the team. I pay good money to park there so I hvae no issue with my current parking area. I have no desire to park at Manley and thats my choice.

What people? That was a generous 34k announced attendance on Sat. The loudest cheer was for Jim Boehiem at halftime.

What do you think keeps the alumni away?

What do you think keeps the students away?

Unlike the bball program, why do you think there is no, or very little, connection between former players and the program?

Eh. Apples and oranges about culture. Its a cult in some places. You mention the south and midwest. Name ant school in the northeast, save PedSt, whose fans build a culture. BC? Pitt? UConn? Temple? UMass? Rutgirls? MD? Many states in the northeast don't even have D1 such as DE, RI, Maine, NH, VT etc.

I think the students dont care (as evidenced by the swarms leaving at halftime since 2003, my frosh year so I speak of this as 1st hand knowledge - i am pretty sure it goes back further, but didnt pay attention).

students who don't show up and when they do leave early, turn into alum's who dont attend games.

all of those schools are in pro cities with the exception of uconn and umass, which are d1 babies.

and if there can be a cult in ohio or texas or nebraska or ga or fla or pa than we can do it at Syracuse. The culture and/or lack of cult-ness is a reflection on the fans not attending games. that is what has to change.

If you cant even get your alumni and students to drink the kool-aid. How in the world is it the community/fans fault...

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing?

Name anyplace where a "sports culture" has been built largely by the marketing dept or athletic dept of a school, or even a pro franchise, and not largely from the fanbase itself?

I mean one can argue that the Yankees have the same kind of "cult" following in New York as Alabama football has in Alabama. What did the Yankees do to build that, aside from winning all the time? They have a stadium that is a pain to get to, in a sketchy area (to put it mildly), with outrageous prices. And yet, millions come, happily.

I keep asking this Bees but aside from moving the game to NYC (which I understand) what exactly has SU done the past 10 years to piss you off so royally, aside from sucking?

I gather that they've cut a lot of booster perks, presumably, but that only affects those giving at that level, not the larger population that we need to put another 10K in the Dome regularly to fill it up.

I'm sincerely interested in how they've been so terrible.

SU does have a cult following but its for our basketball program and the reason is we win consistently and are almost always in the post season and when we have a down year its armageddon. When teams/programs go decades without winning the casual fan and the local who is just looking for something to do simply stop showing up. All the schools you mentioned are D1 powerhouses or former powerhouses with decade after decade of success. Comparing SU to those teams is like a Providence bball fan wondering why there fanbase cant be more like SU's.
