LeQuint Allen is Back

I'm thinking if the public groundswell continues then he'll get off with probation and maybe a short suspension.
The key word is continues. What usually happens is they let things like this blow over and people are on to the next thing. That is why I brought up donations. I told the guy that I would not be donating this year until this was resolved. And I mean it. I love Syracuse University. But I hate kangaroo justice even more. It has to stop.

From the article, which is all the information I have about this situation, it sounds like Allen proposed and was willing to take a number of penalties in combination to avoid a suspension. And they all sounded like reasonable things [like being on probation for the rest of his time at SU]. Some were even philanthropic, and would have a beneficial outcome in the community [like working with kids, as he proposed].

That seems more constructive than what he got. And he'd still be on the hook / under penalty of a zero-tolerance penalty if there is a future incident.

I was actually thinking about that. I was planning to make my SU athletics donation by the end of the month deadline for 2022-23 - nothing huge by any means. I hate to hurt the program even more, but it does make it hard to be motivated.

The more I’m reading into this what an asinine original punishment…a whole season.

However the more I read into this the more confident I am he’ll play here next season. Im
Sure he’ll be suspended a game or two.

1) you now have a coaches wife supporting Lequint publicly. As others have said already, if it was a controversial set of facts, I don’t think she would publicly support him.

2) by a coaches wife coming out in support publicly, Dino letting him play in the bowl game AND spring game shows you all you need to know about how the coaches feel about this. They thought it was pretty much a nothing. Dino has shown before he is willing to suspend and kick kids off the team for BS they pull.

3) you have current and big time former players coming out publicly about this. I don’t think someone like Zaire Franklin is going to speak out publicly about this if he didn’t already know the facts and disagree strongly with the decision. Furthermore, I don’t think you would have a bunch of current players coming out publicly in support of Lequint if they knew he was in the wrong. These kids aren’t stupid

4) this ruling is picking up a lot of steam in terms of news coverage. I don’t think the University and AD want this getting much further out of hand. I think they make a ruling here that punishes Lequint but not a whole year. I expect a game or 2 suspension and that’s what the university will settle with. I think Wildhack and Dino to an extent will get pretty involved here with the university and ask What are they doing.

5) the Syracuse legal system didn’t even find enough to charge to Lequint. But the university is going to have a harsher punishment than the actual legal system? Come on now.

6) look at Lequint’s track record all the way back to his high school days. Never has been trouble, never has been in trouble but now the university wants to mess up his life for this??? Lequint took responsibility for his actions, stated he was willing to do some community work, and I’m sure a game or two suspension…to me that sounds about on par for this kind of action. Even if it’s self defense and you cause bodily harm to someone…a game or two suspension and community work is a very fair suspension. Lequint is not completely innocent here and I think that punishment is on course for his actions. And I guarantee Lequint won’t be a problem the rest of the time he is here.

7) lastly, anyone with a brain knows, that if the facts we know as of now are correct, knows that punishment was just ridiculous to begin with. To be quite honest with you, if there’s an investigation that needs to be ongoing. It’s how the hell did the university think a season suspension was the right consequence for this action. I honestly think that should be investigated on how they came to that conclusion. Cause that’s just not right, and can’t happen going forward

For the past couple of years, I've wondered what would happen if a university tossed an athlete through the school judicial board, but the same athlete was not arrested or tried for a crime in a court of law.

I didn't think it would happen here. I think it's fascinating because it's not only a punishment that takes away their academic options. It also takes away what could essentially be claimed as their livelihood.

The NIL deals only happen if the player is playing. If a university takes that player out of the equation with a punitive decision, I feel like the athlete could very quickly sue for reinstatement and reimbursement of lost money.

A private "company" in a non-right-to-work state has to provide cause for firing someone and taking that person's livelihood away. I don't think that is where any of this will go, but it is an interesting exercise in looking at how NIL has essentially made student-athletes into employees.

If this thing isn't resolved, this might push me over the edge finally. Not solely because of how absurd this whole thing is but the negative impact this will have. I've been really excited with our recruiting this year and staff hires. Kiss all that goodbye if this isn't resolved. Can't imagine LeQuint wouldn't transfer even if he does get a chance to play this year. This program is always walking a fine line of being completely irrelevant, this could be a death blow.

You missed Billy E in 2001?

The fact that he is fighting to stay is remarkable. If Lamson can get a spot at Stanford based on the thin reed of work here, I’d imagine Allen would have many more options.

He should say this place and put an open for business note on his Twitter. He has no obligations to SU and he’s not enrolled.

My guess is he would have entered into the portal if this had been resolved before then

Someone here implied that by being suspended he would not be in good academic standing, which might make him unable to transfer. Not sure if that’s the case.
