Let's boycott college sports

There is reason why professional athletes do not have unlimited free agency.
For sure. Maybe I should have put quotes around "professional athletes".

I know, legally speaking, they're not actual professional athletes. But they're also, clearly, not just purely students.

I say here over and over again that pro sports have become far more fun to follow than D1 college sports.

Unfortunately for many CNYers (current or past)...Syracuse is our professional sports team even though many of us never went there. The school and the sports teams are are a source of pride in the 315.

It runs deep...among many of us.

Who's with me?
I am with you!!!

I boycott college sports every year from the minute the lacrosse final ends on Memorial Day until the first college football game in August.

Unfortunately, I cannot stand with you the rest of the year - too much of a sucker.

Conversation at next NCAA Board of Governors Meeting:

"It appears that a small handful of posters from a message board called Syracusefan.com have boycotted college sports."

"Are you serious, fam?!"

"Not playin at all. This is the real deal. This is an existential problem to the future of college athletics as we know it. Those seven fans are of critical importance."

"That's all we needed to hear. Shut the portal/NIL down today."

I've been feeling that way about pro sports also. I used to watch tons of college basketball and football, but I don't watch much of the regular seasons anymore except for the teams I have a direct cheering interest in. Although I still am a sucker for the NCAA tourney and I enjoy watching the bowl games since I usually have a lot of PTO in December.

You have lived this long and do not know what a man baby is? I simply refuse to believe that. Please tell us you were joking.
I know Stumpy err Stocky...he is not a man baby

Maybe a jerk or doofus...but not a man baby

Pro sports have their issues, no doubt. But broadly speaking, there are logical rules in place that govern player movement, team spending, and competitive fairness.

The leagues actively want parity. The more franchises with playoff hopes the better.

College has become the antithesis of that. It's constant roster chaos and leadership who is literally trying to institute a cartel of 2 conferences and ~40 schools. All while fans are being shaken down to fork over more and more cash to "compete". It's all gross.

I'd never "boycott" Syracuse sports. I mean, the term is childish, either watch or don't watch, there's no "boycott" involved. But if SU isn't good then it's really not worth the time to follow closely. Hoops proved that this season.

Also, total count of "boycotting college sports" last football season = 0.

# of posts hating the portal last football season = 0.

As you said, either watch it or don't. We know the setup. We paid alot for a QB last year. More than many schools in division 1. No one said boo.

Thanks for having my back there TexasMike!!
Dcuse, to be clear, was not saying you are a man baby just that I was surprised you did not know what was one.

Only when Cuse is good. There is a large bandwagon contingent in these parts. Basketball used to be immune to this but missing the NCAAs 4 years running will force anyone to rethink their priorities.

I can't, too addicted (to college football anyways). I have been in the South now longer than I lived in CNY, college football is a religion down here. I can watch college ball all day, I cant say that for any other sport on any level - that includes the NFL. I am in no way a fan of what is happening to college football but I'd be a liar if I said I won't watch anymore. I'll watch the Oregon-OSU, Texas-Georgia, Michigan-ND, Rutgers-Penn St games because they are exciting match-ups (OK, I kid on that last one - rather pour bleach in my eyes). Heck, I'll watch MAC games during the week if I have time.

Yep. “What happened to loyalty?!” say fans of the team that poached impact guys from schools like Texas A&M and Georgia last season.

I hate the chaos that is NIL and the transfer portal. It’s terrible for the health of a sport. If there aren’t pro-like rules put in place soon then we’re headed towards a world where only a highly concentrated group are capable of winning titles.

But we shouldn’t be hypocrites about it. If we’re going to fall in love with Kyle McCord for leaving Ohio State for us, then we can’t be “boycotting” college sports when the tables turn.
