She's like, "eh, win a second national title and then maybe I'll be impressed..."

Dude! What A great pic. Your cousins daughter looks to be rocking a hand knitted sweater although Grandma forgot to use any orange.

Oh Yaah, eat that sheet NC board, what a jerk posing for a pick woth a baby during his off time picking something up for the wife.

And the bonnet Lol... mom dressed this baby for life on the prairie circa 1902

Nice that he took the time to pose for the picture, but I guess I am even more impressed by the fact that he went to the grocery store. Maybe Juli just wanted to get him out of the house... ;)

You guys have such the wrong image of Jim. He's a totally normal/regular husband and father who does a lot of the grocery shopping, gets his hair cut at the local barbershop, helps his kids with their homework, walks the dog and goes to most of his kids' games (and among the three kids, they must be in a dozen different sports activities).

Well my wife sends me to the store when she's had enough and thats pretty normal right? LOL, kidding but seriously I don't doubt that he is exactly as you say and its really not hard to picture for me.

My only point was that it must be hard for him to go out in public without being mobbed by well-wishers. I would think that would make it difficult to accomplish what you set out to do. That's all. I know he is a better person than his professional (read: media relations) persona.

Saw him this afternoon at a youth basketball game.

Hmm you know an awfull lot about that . . . . . . . . . . . .

The only reason I know is because he told me to cancel the former Doublemint Twin girls I had booked. He blamed his wife for the change. All pictures from that party have been destroyed, so I was told. But there is one with those two meatheads, midgets and a stolen petting zoo animal floating around that I swear looks like it was taken in his house.

Conveniently "my wife's great aunt" had a terrible accident just before I was about to drive down. I felt horrible missing his party. Truly. :D

I thought the same thing (about being mobbed). But I see him at a lot of the tournaments my son plays in (he's the same age as JB's youngest), and people really don't bother him much at those. I think people respect that he's there as just another father watching his kids play basketball. Many times you won't even know he's in the gym unless you look for him. Same with Hop when he's out watching his son. I think people say hi in the hallways, but I never see him mobbed or having to pose for pictures. The entire staff are just awesome people.

Locals tend to respect the privacy of the celebrities among them. Before he died, Paul Newman was always around town here (Westport, CT) -- shopping, working out at the Y, or dining at local restaurants. People smiled at him and Joanne Woodward, but no one bothered them. They were part of the community... and wanted to be treated as such.

Exactly, Joyce.

I've got to admit, if I had seen Paul Newman, I might have gotten a bit star struck. And I am not someone that gets stars truck, but Paul Newman was one of my favorite actors and someone that seemed very genuine and down to earth, for someone of his fame.

I was with Paul maybe 20 times. His wife and I were on a non-profit board together, so I saw them a lot. In retrospect, I wish just once I had asked him for 20 seconds of his time to pose for a picture with me, but it just didn't seem appropriate. So I never did it.

Funny story. My friend Barbara Boeheim (Jim's sister) was visiting one weekend, and Paul and Joanne Woodward were walking towards us at an outdoor restaurant. Barbara said: "Is that Paul Newman?" I said: "Yes. Would you like to meet him?" So I made eye contact with Joanne... .and they came to our table... and Barbara got to meet them. So I did interrupt their privacy just once in all those years... to introduce them to a friend... but I never did it to have a picture taken with me.

That is fantastic, and I applaud your restraint. Isn't it amazing that this "Hollywood couple" lasted so long? I wish we heard more about those couples than the ones that last just months. I would buy the magazine that but a happy marriage on the cover long before the rehab, plastic surgery and infidelity littered junk on the newstands now. Oops, I got a little off course. Joyce, I never get tired of hearing the stories of the great people you've met. Perhaps we need a board where you can write anecdotes for those of us who haven't experienced that type of thing.
