Looks like we could Doug Marrone as the next Tennessee Titans HC

Promotions, sure. Better not ever jump to a better company or better job either. Headhunting exists in all professions. In this day and age, Boeheim is one of a kind. Came here in '62 and never left. I love that, but that's just not how things work out anymore in the sports world.

The words dream job are used often and mean nothing. Having binders about every aspect of the job mean a little more. But the clincher is that he said every single move he had made in his coaching career was made with the SU job as the end goal. There is no doubt in my mind that when he took the SU job his intentions were that it was his final destination job and he had no desires for an NFL job.

If you're an SU and Buffalo Bills fan (as if regular life wasn't bad enough), it's pretty easy to dislike him.

If you're a Doug Marrone fan, I guess it's easy to like him. Not my perspective though. But credit to him, he certainly has a following.

Nice false dichotomy.

Well done.

Here's the thing that's crazy to me about Marrone - it sounds like he more or less tried to pull a power play with new ownership. Hoes does that even work?

"Hi guys, I know you just spent an insane amount of money to own and run a team, but, look... I've got this covered so just stay out of my way."

I'm sure the new owners were pretty eager to hand over the keys to someone else.

I fully expect all of you to loyally remain in your current job forever, and you'd better not take any sort of promotion. If you do, you are an asshat clown who cannot be trusted.

(slaps giant forehead).

It's ok, you can be a fan of SU football and a fan of Doug Marrone. Don't read too much into it.

But if you like both SU and the Bills, then yeah, it's hard to be on team Marrone, no matter how much lipstick you guys try to put on that pig.

(note, that's a metaphor, I can see one of you guys reaching for oxygen tanks because Marrone was called a pig).

there isn't a big overlap between syracuse fans and bills fans. if there were, there'd be more people in the dome. marrone = mularkey to most bills fans. they've had a lot worse coaches but no one every thinks about mularkey or marrone.

Do not be surprised to see him land a HC gig in the NFL soon.

Further, about the posts questioning his "loyalty" and if he would stick around, all of those things can be taken care of within the covenants of the contract. But I think that's getting ahead of ourselves. If he lands a HC job, he's not going to try and get out of dodge any time soon.

Haters gon' hate.
id be surprised.

the guy is a Fn QUITTER.

the NFL 'owns a day of the week'...and that piece of garbage just QUIT being the CEO of 1 of its 32 Sentry's.

hes done.

why wont he try to get out of Dodge any time soon??...because he screwed up!!! and he knows it!! thats why.

hes a QUITTER.

the NFL doesnt like QUITTERS.

the titans will be the laughing stock of the NFL if they hire him.

Why what? Why do I like to laugh at them? Because they thought this was "the year" after week 2. Rex is a joke.

Worked out well.

The only people who thought that were Rex Ryan and his immediate family. As a life long bills fan I didn't know anyone who was making playoff plans after week 1, in fact most Bills fans were pretty sure NE was going to be a disaster the following week. Most Bills fans are pretty level headed when it comes to this type of stuff we know the other shoe will drop eventually no matter how good things might look at the time.

You mean like fans of every NFL team? How dare they!

The #BillsMafia garbage was at an all-time high week 2. Don't give me all of that crap.

The Bills fans I know were believing big time.

Laugh away. The NFL doesn't GAF about any of the "quitter" banter you keep referencing. So, if that's the case, then they now control what teams hire who? Give me a break.

There is no doubt in my mind that when he took the SU job his intentions were that it was his final destination job and he had no desires for an NFL job.

Agree to disagree. Hell, his name was already being tossed around in NFL circles when he was Co-OC in New Orleans. Peter King had him on his "names to watch" for NFL openings way back. Doug knew what his plans were.

of course they dont control who hires who. otherwise jer-uh wouldnt have a team of 53 criminals.

but those in power, doing the hiring over what they can control, wont be hiring a QUITTER.

he cant call plays and i dont think anyone would want him telling their fancy new play caller with the fancy new QB...that he couldnt call that because it was time to quit...i mean punt.

hes a solid #2 or 3.

youre right, though, he wont be blowing a 2nd chance because he knows how dumb it was to walk away from the 1st.

The Bills mafia is what 5% of the fanbase if that? Not really sure that's a good barometer. Guess its crazy to think a few nuts got excited after the Bills throttled Andrew Luck in week 1. All fanbases have a % of the fanbase that overreacts when anything positive happens, the Giants threads on this board the last few years are testament to that.

why is he even reading #billsmafia posts? most of it is just people having fun. "bills are going to win the superbowl! check out this powerbomb on a beat up pinto"

Just so you know I am not comparing Marrone to Belichick. However Belichick quit on the NY Jets.

He was suppose to replace Parcells when he retired but didn't want to stay on because the Jets ownership was changing hands from Leon Hess to Woody Johnson.

BB had the press conference where he said he was resigning as the HC of NYJ. Now he got the Patriots right after that and the Pats had to give the Jets a 1st round pick and other compensation but coaches have quit because of ownership change.

If Mehta whatever didn't do a hitjob on Marrone he likely would have gotten the Jets job. It was sorta like our fanbase when it looked like we were hiring Chris Ash.

Marrone's agent and his endorsements from Parcells/Polian are going to get him another NFL HC job. He just needs to loose up and get the right job.

You might have been level headed but Vegas made the Bills favorites week 2 vs. NE.
ESPN had their SportsCenter crew on the road and Ryan shuck the hornets nest that week. Insulting Dion Lewis and bunch of other Patriots.
I get you might have been more reasonable than most but the Bills fans tried to set the Guinness world record for loudest stadium that week. It wasn't suppose to be a disaster. Now Rex helped make it easier on NE that week with comments. The second game this year he shut up and his DL came to play.

name 1.

belichick most certainly does not count.

he had that job, parcells 'retiring' screwed up the whole thing and the smoothness of it.

if you ask me, parcells had it in for kraft and BB...and did that to cripple them getting a good start.

Jon Gruden wasn't fired by the Raiders. He was sick of Al Davis. The Bucs gave the Raiders a first round pick and he went to Tampa and beat the Raiders in the next Super Bowl because Al Davis pissed him off.

Based on both examples you cited, as a Bills fan, I can be expecting an upcoming draft pick from the Titans, or whoever wins the high maintenance head coach sweepstakes?

If a pig eats a lot of balogna, does that make him a cannibal?

Pretty funny that the Bills are going to "shake things up" in the front office now after another wasted season. Probably make many of the changes Marrone was requesting.

Would have been a hell of a lot cheaper and Pegula would more flexibility if they he had acted a year ago.

both instances the coach in question had a GUARANTEED job.

they didnt quit, they traded up.

that is fine.

dont quit until the ink is dry on the new job.

that would also make rocco happy.

If DM was still under Buffalo contract yes but he used a valid clause in his contract which vested his contract guaranteed and allowed him to become a FA.

Buffalo will not get compensation if DM becomes a HC elsewhere. He almost got the NYJ job last year.
