This next game is huge for a lot of reasons

I thought Chestnut playing well was a huge key, but I didn’t see that coming.

lf he can be close to that going forward SU has a top end corner duo. That will allow White to mix his coverages and play more man and not shade his coverages to provide help away from Williams. Be able to lock up two guys should lead to more coverage sacks or at least pressures.

OLine was solid, first game as a group, ability to upgrade will Davis and have Tisdale as the swing guard is great. Need to keep improving but I’m sticking with this group is going to end up in the good to very good range. This week will stress them mentally, as much as we loath Schiano, he is a professional dc that has been in front of very good defenses.

WR and DL are still areas of concern for me. When will McKinley be back and will he be 100%, can Lockett provide an upgrade and production with the second unit, where is the edge pressure coming from, will Linton play this year, can White create pressure with the linebackers? Are Alford and or Gadsden potential #1s? I’m not confident that taj is going to win 50/50 balls, can Queelly consistently get open?

Need to be clean, gift points to Rutgers is death. Specials need to break even, no short fields for. I hate dominating those clowns and losing on cheap points.

They want a good season this can’t be like Minnesota in 09, Rutgers in 11, Northwestern in 12, Pitt in 19. Playing a peer at home, need to close and win, not lose a close game because of multiple mistakes and gift points.

Yup. Much like Ohio on the road if we want to be the competitive ACC team we believe we are we need to prove that we're capable of defeating a lower level P5 team on our home field.

In some ways Rutgers is a great match up because they aren't that talented, or perform that well as a football team. In other ways Rutgers is a challenging matchup because Shiano has no shame and will throw the kitchen sink at opponents, so we do need to prepare for weirdness.

I do think we win.

This is key because I think we will need to be able to bring 5-6 to get pressure, and having 2 lockdown corners (and a center fielder like Hanna) will be key to this. Linton and Bear health also key.

This week will stress them mentally, as much as we loath Schiano, he is a professional dc that has been in front of very good defenses. Tidale was our lowest PFF graded Lineman and almost the lowest graded player on the team, Davis might be our best OL, so that would be a huge talent swing

If Sharod and Jackson are just going to be ‘solid’, I would rather have replace a with another ‘solid’ player who is half a foot taller (Alford or OG) and we can throw to in single coverage anytime. And Q needs to block better also, Harris turned in the only solid blocking game that I saw

Need to be clean, gift points to Rutgers is death. Specials need to break even, no short fields for. I hate dominating those clowns and losing on cheap points. I am terrified of this also

We opened the season with a solid but not spectacular road game to open 2019 and then got blown out by a B1G team in our recruiting back yard who turned out not to be very good. PLEASE don’t let history repeat

Yes, but if memory serves, SU had boneheads for offensive and defensive coordinators then.

Hopefully the first guy to blitz meets Mang, and gets carted off the field

Really worried about Saturday’s game.
I do not think the same game plan will work this week. We need to throw the ball more because they will be staking the line.
TD concerns me. He managed the game well but we need more than a game manger to win Saturday.
He is going to face a lot of pressure and mixed looks. It will be critical for him to continue to show he has improved in reading D and going through his progressions.
We have to be able to continue to move the ball so our D does not get worn down.

Must kick away from their guy, he's a good return man. If we play mistake free and no special teams blunders we should be in good shape.

Smart play would be for them to come after TD and get him rattled, but the blitzing can also work against them. We showed nothing from Saturday other than Tucker. They'll have to worry now about stopping the run. If they bring pressure and flood the gaps we have to have some quick hits drawn up that will take advantage of their blitzing

Where do I view the PFF grades? Quick google search did me no good.

Williams did a good job placing the ball inside the 20, but looked slow on the get off. Gonna need to speed up a bit to make sure there's no punt blocks.

I'd like a better mix of play calls on the goal line. Sterlin does not seem to have the "TE sneak out of the backfield through the line for a quick pop pass" in his arsenal. Also would like to see some fades to Alford and Gadsden.

The kid isnt Conan.

Nice player with potential, think he can really develop, but he’s not there today.
I never indicated he was a finished product, but with his size with what appears to be quickness that Rhino doesn't have he could end up being something special in a few years.
He already is a better blocker then Benson will ever be.

This will make your blood boil.

reason 1001 why I hate those guys. Game goes to ot because of two blocked kicks either of which don’t happen SU wins in regulation, is 6-1 coming out of wvu, and maybe history is different

two blocked kicks, 5 turnovers. = ot loss , definition of a bad beat, any one of those plays don’t happen SU wins. goalline interception, that’s points off the board, ices it in regulation.

If you are clean they can’t beat you straight up.

‘’hate those mf’ers.

This isn't going to be the game to go through progressions. The ball has to come out quick.

Left so much more meat on the bone against Liberty in 2019 than they did against Ohio in 2021. Feel like the team is in a better place. But that's just my opinion.

I think the game decider is will their aggressive D make more plays or will we be able to counter enough to make them pay for their aggression. Taj deep. A long run. We need chunk plays to offset losses and TD can't deer in headlights turnovers.

We score in the mid 20's and I like our chances.

Good post. Need to win specials resoundingly.

Probably going to be a lot of pressure on the LBs with the DL being banged up.

OL needs to string together a second good game.

Then we all need to ride our lord and savior Sean Tucker.

Totally agree, still nervous haha

Think 2021 Ohio would beat 2019 Liberty also

You said it all with that statement. I still remember that overtime game we played against them. Rutgers starting at the 25 yard line, Syracuse stuffing them again and again and backing them up to the 30. And they kick the field goal and win the game
