Louisville

Where was UVA's freshman class ranked? They get nice contributions from their Frosh.
ESPN ranked them 8th. In addition to Guy (5-star, Bennett's first Burger Boy) and Jerome (4-star), there's a 3-star big who is redshirting this year and a 3-star guard.

I was really impressed with Guy's offense. He looked really comfortable against the zone. Made quick decisions like to drive immediately when somebody closed hard on him. That baseline floater was nice! Obviously the kid can shoot. Curious what you thought of Battle?

Rivals has all 4 of our guys as 4-star recruits - Guy (43), Huff (50), Jerome (53), and Hunter (60) - for the 8th best recruiting class. And that was supposed to include former 5-star Austin Nichols (screw that guy). Plus, we now have Diakite who redshirted last year but was a top 40 recruit in the 2015 class.

In contrast, ESPN has Guy (27), Jerome (43), Hunter (72), and Huff (73). Guy was a 5-star in their rankings and the rest were 4-stars.

Battle was really impressive. Strong off the bounce, quick pull up and nice midrange floater, nice crossover, tenacious defender. Reminded me a little bit of Malachi but with more strength and more of a bulldog on the defensive end. Definitely a pro in the making.

How did Louisville lose. I thought UVA was a bunch of slow unathletics guys that couldn't even exploit our no account zone. Weird.

You do know that UL played like three or four non-starters/walkons right?

Come on man. Nobody said UVA was a bunch of stiffs. It's obvious they miss a few physical athletes like Brogdon and Gill. We slapped a press on and Malachi went nuts and played out of his mind. UVA has handled us ever since we joined the ACC with little trouble. Having guys like those two and Justin Anderson in the past are big reasons why.

Battle is a great addition for SU. Makes his shots and hustles. Like our new guys, he has to get used to a defense that he played little, if at all, in HS. I would imagine Boeheim and Bennett are pretty much the same on this - you get PT based on how well you do on the defensive end of the court because both know their new guys can score.

For perspective, Bennett has beat us 3 times, we have beat him twice.

You are always lurking keeping us honest!

Yup and in the first 3 matchups 2 of them were on their home court. They only came to the Dome during our sanctions season. They're doing nothing special against us.

I don't think Pitino has worn the white pimp suit since the underage escort allegations.

I understand the white suit had to be permanently retired after being stained with the secret sauce after his tryst at the Italian restaurant.

They also beat them earlier this year, even got Pitino to say they are Louisville's kryptonite after that game. Good time to suspend players in a game you know you are going to lose.

I'm aware. They are similar to UL how a Dixon Pitt team was for us. For the record, I never said UVA was unathletic or some stiffs. I simply said they are missing a couple of physical athletes like Brogdon/Gill who were quite skilled.

Yeah the lack of an interior post game severely limits our upside this year. Our interior game was downright awful against you guys. Most of that has to do with Lydon being an absolute beast on the defensive end. I think we're much easier to defend this year than in previous years. I think our ceiling is the Sweet 16. Maybe Elite 8 if we get fortunate with the matchups. It's hard not to think how different this team would be with Austin Nichols but it is what it is. With that said, I'm not going to complain too much about being 18-5 (8-3) with losses to FSU (buzzer beater 3 by Bacon), WVU (tied with 90 seconds left), at Cuse (close game), at Villanova (buzzer beater tip in) and at Pitt in OT (crushed in OT...:().

There was a moment in last nights game where Louisville gave up two horrible full court pass/dunks back to back. Complete defensive breakdowns. They showed Pitino on the bench and he was in full meltdown. For you old timers, the thing it reminded me most of was Sylvester from Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. It was hilarious.

I do. I was making a joke. I fell like this years UVA team is not as good as last years or the year before but they are still top 10 team that we beat. That is what I was referring to more than last years tourney. We play a good team at home and play pretty good defense and really good offense and at times it feels like people can't just stop and say we played well and got a victory. It has to be about throwing a press on, getting lucky with a player catching fire or they are not athletic enough and our defense still lacks lateral movement and sucks in general. I know I'm more of a positive person than some but I think at some point you have to enjoy a good victory and not poke holes in it. I feel like there are times to be frustrated and feel like mistakes have been made ie recruiting and Monte Morris/Newton etc. but then when we play well and our hopefully turning a corner we should acknowledge that.

I personally don't think UVA in its current form is top 10 good this year. I think we're top 20 good with the capability of beating any team in the country but also more susceptible to losses than in the previous few years. Also, I think people are discounting the fact that Syracuse was a preseason top 25 team (19 AP, 17 Coaches). You guys had that preseason ranking for a reason. Ton of talent on this team. Just took a while for new players to learn their roles and get comfortable in the defense. Syracuse definitely has the ability to go on another postseason run this year.

That's a solid assessment. I think next year you have the potential to be formidable if Diakite develops and gets a little stronger. He already looks the part as a frosh but if he develops his game sort of the way and in the process like Mathiang and Dieng did at UL then you guys will be really tough. Question. Too lazy to look up but are you guys bringing in another PG to replace Perrantes or is Jerome going to take over?

Jerome is supposed to be the heir apparent.
