I just don't think Fran/Nixon are ready to change things in order to win. We need to run less plays not speed things up. I believe that we are 5th Nationally in plays per FBS game. That does not make sense going forward.

We probably should be under 70 plays, under 40 passes, and about 30 rushes. It doesn't matter who is QB, we aren't winning throwing it 50 times a game. Especially if JRS is out.

Eh, it's really hard to change number of plays the right way.

You can reduce plays per game by having more three and outs (I am not going to phrase it threes and out, nerds). But that's not really conducive to winning.

I don't think thats true. Watch his senior highlights again. I just did with that with this in mind and no complaints here from me on that subject. He started looking one way often and then looked the other. Possible that is still his #1 read though. I'd bet a lot he has better vision of receivers than Rickie. If they are open throw it to the #1. There were some where the opponent had decent coverage on them but he still made the throw and completed it by putting it in the right spot, where only his receivers can get it. He is decisive because he has confidence in his passing abilities and he is accurate.

I watch his film and i don't see any weakness or any things that made me question can he do this or that. He has very efficient motions. Love his throwing motion, foot work, timing, accuracy, confidence in his throws and decisions. Moves in the pocket well, can feel and evade pressure. Can make plays with his feet. Has good arm strength. Seems to have everything you want other than be 2" taller and 20 lbs heavier. But his size is plenty sufficient. From his interviews he seems smart and confident. To me the risk on him not panning out is much lower than any QB we have brought in, as far as i can remember.

Will he be ready to be productive as a true freshman though? We may see. It comes down to the mental side of it and his confidence in the offensive play book and just his confidence in himself moving up a level. Does he have that swagger and confidence as a true frosh? Does he feel like he can gain the respect of his team and be a leader of these men as a true frosh? is he mature enough for that? I'd guess he is and he will look pretty solid when he gets his opportunity.

I agree on slowing the pace if we are not being efficient. If we get an incomplete or stuffed on a run slow it down. But if you get a first down and want to go fast and speed it up that makes sense to me. Assuming you think that is an advantage to being more successful on the next play.

But if the offense is sputtering, yeah lets slow it down a bit.

Understand your point Archbold44. It is highlights only. But that is pretty much true for any recruit film.

Although Carney's career stats suggest he made predominantly good plays.

Whereas Collins' season stats suggest... not so much.

If we are sticking with Rickie, I want to see more QB runs and WR runs and RBs off tackle... and less of just runs between the guards. Given that he cannot pass like Steve, we need to do different things. Who, other than Rickie, can come in and throw a pass as a RB, TE, or WR?

This is the game to leave it all on the table. If we cannot beat Pitt, I do not see us upsetting Ga Tech, Miami, or ND (all three in the playoff discussion). And, even if we do beat Pitt in anything other than a sheer blowout where some QB plays out of this world, it is STILL not likely. No sense not going pretty deep into the playbook.

What that shows is that he has the capability, but is highly inefficient. 300 plus total yds from your qb should generate more than 18 pts.

To win games they need twice as many pts out of those yds.

Sadly, I would sign on the dotted line for UConn Angeli pre JRS TD the rest of this year. He was 24-43 275 0 TD 1 INT at that point. That is still better than what we have seen from Rickie this year.

I hope you’re right. And let me preface what I’m about to say with the fact that I also think that Fran has winning as his number one goal, and not “being right“

But I do think there are a couple of factors here that are in play. There’s a new term in this NIL world “money don’t sit“. I do wonder how much this is factored into what’s going on.

Moving on from Ricky also means that they spent money on a guy And he clearly isn’t performing. You essentially have to admit that you whiffed.

Football coaches are funny in the sense that they always think they can coach somebody up and tend to not make changes quickly.

Coaches can treat the next two weeks in two different ways. The first is to say we have two weeks to open up the competition and see who’s best, or the second could be- we have two weeks to force-feed Ricky everything that we can and get him coached up in that same time.

Rickie is no good. We need Carney ASAP. Its a "future endevours" situation for Rickie. I hope he finds his own Marshall, like CDRW, but he can't be our QB anymore. Gotta see what Luke can do...Watching Rickie is sooo painful...He could have thrown 7 interceptions in each of the past two games...He is like the Jaquan Carlos of football.

he sure does, pump fakes, look offs, scans the field in the pocket and when scrambling, hitting secondary and tertiary receiving options. I finally had to watch them and see what the hype was. It seems legit. Again the only concern is can he do it vs. power 4 teams. I think so.

Obviously a different level, but definitely skills Rickie doesn’t possess or maybe he just isn’t comfortable yet. Either way, I’d love to see what Carney has.
