Luke Carney

Frankly I think Rickie is still playing because we paid him 500k in NIL.
It is literally the only thing that makes sense at this point.
I have seen some awful qbs over the years at SU but this dude has to be top 3.
He can’t seem to develop and play better, the last 4 games prove that.

Can Carney be better or at least improve each game?
Collins has proven without any doubt that he can not improve.
I say give Carney a real shot.
There is nothing to lose at this point. We are not making a bowl game anymore.

One thing that really gets under my skin is when Fran says Rickie “plays better in the 4th quarter.” Well, no kidding. By then, the game’s basically over, and defenses are in prevent mode — of course he can rack up garbage-time yards and touchdowns. The reality is he’s simply not a power 4 quarterback. I’m ready to move on. If he sticks around next year, he’s looking at a Group of 5 program at best.

Isn't going to happen, there is no way after 4 consecutive blowouts they bench Rickie, and possibly admit they were wrong, about Rickie being the best option to win.

Agree. I would not sacrifice a potential NCAA eligibility at this point.

Anybody know how injury riders work in the NIL era?

Is there any chance that after the injury, we're allowed to reduce what we pay Steve by however much we're paying his replacement? But would owe them both if we bench Rickie since we benched him willfully and are no longer paying a replacement?

This is a question and not speculation, but my understanding is that both have mid to high six figure contracts. It occurred to me that if something like that were in play it's not a trivial amount of money.

I’m guessing we see Carney in the last 3 games. It preserves his red shirt as he has played in one already

LSU can can Kelly and eat 54 million and we cant can former LSU qb for 500k?
Right. That’s sounds crazy right? Which is why it’s likely false. People spit looney stuff out here and then others repeat it as fact. The money the program spent on these guys is gone. There’d be absolutely zero reason to play someone because of money that’s already gone. A booster who demanded it would be told to pound salt. Most importantly, that supposed booster doesn’t exist. It’s a board fabrication.

I swear, in all aspects of life these days I wish people would stop and say to themselves “does this thing I read that I’m now outraged about make any sense?” And when the answer 99% of the time is no, then move on about your day.

My point was to point out how stupid that line of thinking is

Not to mention the cited number isn’t even correct. Stuff just gets made up here and regurgitated.

you’re right. It is crazy. But you know what’s just as insane? A coach rationalizing that Collins should continue playing.
maybe he shouldn't say anything anymore and just do what he's going to do. then we could stop parsing every word and just critique what he does. the words seem to have holes in them and around them.

I agree we're well past the sunk cost fallacy stage on that and the mystery donor rumor needs to die. But "money don't sit" has been a thing in Pro sports for a long time; A Rod and Prince Fielder come to mind:

The problem is, we're basically another Pro sport now and collectively still trying to figure out how the money changes things. A month ago when Rickie was still a question mark, I think wondering about NIL was halfway reasonable.

Starting to feel like a Dino & Shafer season where you gets excited in the first half of the season and then the wheels completely fall off (usually because of a QB injury) and you feel like you have no shot against peer teams. The defense doesn't play hard if the offense looks like crap and they don't think they can win. It shouldn't be like that but it is at this point. Fran is supposed to be better than this. The talent shouldn't be a problem.

We laugh at UNC but do I expect to beat an awful UNC team at home... no. UNC thinks they have a chance to beat us. We can't have Gio Lopez look like a Heisman winner against our defense. Belichick may be over the hill but I think he can diagram a defense to stop Rickie Collins..

Have Carney come out and run the wishbone if you have to but you can't just give up and stop trying to win. Have Villari and Willis run the wildcat. Scratch and claw, but we don't want to be the only team that Chapel Bill can beat.

UNC played Virginia right up to the last second and only lost as a surprise two-point conversion fell inches short. The tar heels absolutely are coming to the Cuse expecting to win. And why wouldn't they? With Collins at the helm our offense is a Halloween fright.
