Luke Carney

a) He’s from Texas, and we have a REALLY low success rate in keeping kids from Texas. Not sure exactly why (although I have my suspicions), but the fact remains that of the few Texas kids we land, most transfer out pretty quickly. The only exception I can think of in recent memory is Koda Martin, and it’s hard to enter the portal when you live in the head coach’s basement.
b) He knows he’s got no shot as long as Angeli is here, which looks like through 2027. Angeli wasn’t on the roster when he signed, so he may have thought he had a clearer shot at starting this year or next.

A+B= He Gone
Brian Picucci?

Koda Martin was a grad transfer and only here for one year.

Doesn’t explain why they would burn his four games just to hand off for a few plays.
This kind of makes it worse.

Once Angeli went down and they realized Collins sucked, they should have given Carney some real run. The decision to redshirt Carney next year instead was on the table.

I’m still a supporter of Fran, but this is puzzling.

The plot gets thicker. Fran can legit say that he is not going to let someone start a game just because that is the only way they will agree to not redshirt. Carney can legit say... why should I burn the redshirt for one handcuffed drive per game? On the other hand, Carney can also say... if I am not redshirting, shouldn't I get non-redshirt $$$ this year and next? But Fran can say... we have other guys that are redshirt that will also agree to start. And Carney could also realize that just being competent could get him the QB#2 next year and the money that goes with that. And so on,

If Fran was not going to let Pena push him around, he is not going to let Carney do so either. But Carney cannot let himself get pushed around either and be a leader.

At this point, let Collins start against Miami/ND. Collins just looks slightly better on the road than at home. If Carney wants to burn his redshirt, let him be QB#2 in those games for some end of game experience and the starter against BC. If Carney does not want to burn his redshirt, then Filardi is QB#2 in those games for the same end of game experience. And cross BC when we get to it (Collins/Carney/Filardi).

Honestly at this point it really doesn't matter. Whoever plays quarterback plays quarterback. It's not going to be pretty. We are not going to a bowl game this year. Might possibly beat Boston college. Going to get steamrolled by Florida State and Notre dame. It is what it is.

Lots of lessons learned from this year. Next year should be substantially better and more prepared on all fronts

Agreed 144%.

Yeah, I'm beyond wondering how we got here, who decided what re:
which QB's start, play, get to throw a pass, yada yada yada.

This season is cooked. Stick a fork in it.

We need at least 1 viable backup QB, assuming PB Angeli is healthy enough to start and play next year.
And at least 2 QB's if he's questionable.

IF any of the guys currently in the QB Broom Closet (tm) can be salvaged and become playable, then great.
But if they cannot, then they all need to be shown the door after the season ends.

We can't have backup QB's who literally cannot play the position of QB at the p4 level.
I'd give somebody's right nut to have a dude like Officer Mahoney this year -
kid was a gamer, who could actually complete a forward pass, and also use his legs when needed.
We'd likely have at least another 1-2 W's right now if we had any semblance of QB ability on the current roster.

It would be funny if we found out Luke is color blind and cannot tell which team is which. Or he has only thumbs on his hands and throws a football like a grenade
If as he was quoted as saying, it must have been a decision the staff decided on in the spring. That would be the reason they weren't doing anything special with him when he was in the game.
They also couldn't have thought Rickie would be as bad as he was. After the season fell apart, there is now no reason to burn the redshirt.
They probably thought that they could win with Filardi. If he didn't lose that fumble as bad as he played they might have.

Or if they discovered, thru development, that he's really left handed.

If we’re just gonna throw out silly stuff I’ll take “Carney’s dating Nixon’s daughter.” 😂😂

Like the use of the right nut example as opposed to the more traditional left. Well done.
