Lost in the play is the fact that Lydon was fouled but no call was made. Devon Hall clearly stepped on his foot to cause Lydon to stumble and fall down. This is no more of a "incidental contact/play on" foul than Roberson accidentally running into the back of the UVA player for his 5th foul.

What is protocol in that situation? Do you stop play after the made basket and allow him to retrieve his shoe, or allow play to continue until there is a natural stoppage of play. Is it like a hockey player losing his stick? Should he have taken off his sock so he didn't slip on the court?

It looked like JB and Lydon were kind of expecting play to be stopped after the made basket. I guess it probably would have been if Mike hadn't done the solid of cleaning up the court.

It s a player safety issue in my mind. When G picked it up why didn't the refs just stop play and reset? I know it would have taken away the 3 that came immediately afterwards but that is a 1 in 100 play. And if not then, why not after the basket? What if it was 3 minutes of game action until the next whistle?? He could have been hurt badly trying to play on that sock.
