Should he be the guy, retaining Babers will be up to the university to create a situation that he doesn't want to leave. They will have to weigh the financial benefit of the success he has generated against the cost of what it takes to keep him. However, the level of success he creates will also be tell tale. Look at the season Marrone cobbled together to get a lift to the NFL -- yes it was great for us given our recent history but in the total landscape of CFB it wasn't all that memorable. If we are able to seriously compete for a conference championship, maybe that creates enough satisfaction for him to want to just enjoy the ride at SU. I don't think his age alone will keep him at SU, however. I think his history has demonstrated serious ambition, and the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. The question is can success at SU, with increased university commitment, provide enough of a sense of fulfillment? If football games start to resemble basketball games, as they have in the past, I say yes.
