I wonder how much the schedule matters in the record. the unbalanced ACC schedule and now the all over the place scheduling.

Keep in mind before expansion he was in the Coastal with a talent advantage over everyone that isn't Miami. They should have better records over those years honestly

UNC taking the first step to positioning themselves for the next reconfiguration. They need to have their football better when they join the SEC/BIG conglomerate. UVA should be doing the same thing as their guy is not the answer either.

Mack apparently said once he retires, the next big event in his life is his death. He doesn’t want that so he wants to keep working as long as he can.

If he retires, he leaves the UNC program in far better shape than it was when he returned.

Seems like a good guy. I wish him well whatever ends up happening…..

First, that's an awful personal outlook for anyone to have. My goodness, find other things to enjoy in your life, Mack.

Second, looking at the results of his 6 years at the helm, it seems like he basically continued the tradition of being slightly better than mediocre that Larry Fedora and Butch Davis established before him. Lots of 5 loss seasons.

I'm perpetually perplexed as to why UNC (and UVA) are mediocre at football. Great schools, great areas to live, great recruits nearby, great facilities... and mediocre results. They're a constant drag on the potential of the ACC.

Not a very big recruiting class for 2025. Only 10 commits. Might do better with players that will be entering the portal from UNC.

Mack is the only HC over .500 in the ACC. Also during that 27 year span they have finished Top 25 a grand total of TWO times. That is one less than SU (assuming we don't this season).

They don't have that one run in their history that is historically relevant like the Clemsons, FSUs, Miamis, VATech, and yes even Syracuse.

If they land the big dog coach who turns it around it seems like they are ready to leave too for another gig that is better. Maintaining a long term coach at these types of programs helps immensely. Think Beamer or Nehlen.

SEC schools were all "football schools" once upon a time, save for Kentucky. Then they got serious, hired and retained great coaches, and now it's arguably the best hoops conference in the country.

i was work shopping this SEC hoops situation and realized i'll ignore it and hope no one mentions it.

It's true and may be long lasting now with the advent of professional pay to play.

I still think football is tough to become good (and relevant more important) overnight. In hoops it does seem to happen quicker with coaching (Calipari/Umass) and money/shadiness (UNLV)
