I gave up at 1030 watching at home

I wasn't watching, but checked the score and we were down 3 with 30 seconds left so I turned it back on.

Had a good laugh when we didn't get the rebound on the missed FT, noted the time, went to sleep.

These losses don't bother me anymore.

We are 12-7 and Red is one of our great players and has been part of the program for a long time.

He clearly will be gone after the season but there is no way that JW does that right now.

12-7 with five of those losses coming down to one possession. End result is what matters and wins and losses at the end of the year will drive the decision. Any change made mid season would be an interim solution and unless John thinks a current assistant is the long term answer would serve no purpose. If a change is made the next guy needs to have major college head coaching experience in the NIL and portal era, preferably at an P5 program, and needs to agree to retain Kline. Not too many of those guys sitting at home right now waiting for the phone to ring.

One of the things Wildhack has repeatedly stated is that he constantly maintains a succession list for every sport in his portfolio and has formal and informal conversations about those lists with members of the media and other ADs. In today’s day and age I am sure agents are part of that circle of trust.

That's very good to hear, But having a succession list for major positions is something any executive level leader should have. You never know when something unexpected might happen, whether it's illness or scandal, and good leaders need to be ready.

Now hopefully those conversations are with different people than he talked to about Red.

I don't think there were any conversations about Red. Red was simply the best option to get JB gone without rupturing the relationship with JB and a lot of fans.

It's easy for people to say that Wildhack should have just fired Boeheim and bring in new blood. But I sometimes think people don't realize how different the perspective is on this board vs. the broader fan base.

Even by the end of the 2023 season, JB was still very much beloved by a majority of fans and alums. If you outright fire him then you also sever the relationship with him and SU, perhaps forever.

That's what's going to happen with Red. He's going to be let go and we may not see him again for a couple of decades. It's one thing to do that with him, but it's quite another to do it with the legendary head coach who still influences a lot of funding for the school.

I'm not wholeheartedy defending coaching but nobody seems to want to put anything on the PAID players. And they've sucked.

That's a broken part of a team's overall game. 1 game, maybe 2 games the problem gets identified.

Coach has to fix the problem through working with the player and practice. At a certain point the practice time runs out or the coach can't fix the problem with the player.

Even if you say ok, Free throws, turnovers, and bad iso sets on offense are all part of the problem and being addressed or trying to be, the fault still lies with the staff to not recognize the problem before the season started.

It's all a moot point though. He's cooked.

Nope they weren’t just FTs. Also if you are going to put it on every player or 90 pct of the players that only cements the reality that this is a coaching problem.

The problem with JAB wasn't Wildhack not firing him, it was a complete abdication by the University and AD at the time of the sanctions. Boeheim was left as the only one with power and took the newly hired chancellor and interim ADs to the cleaners.

Kansas was not in danger of losing to SU. They merely played with their food for a bit.

And it doesn't matter, you can't merely add a few FTs after the game is over to change the score without acknowledging that the other team would have made changes too depending on the score. Fact is, they're losses and Syracuse's metrics back up their record of being a mediocre college team.

I get that and it's definitely easier to lob bombs from afar about this, but it was a second probation and the Hop situation and then it was a lot of bad years and then it was Red.

I think there was more going on behind the scenes at levels above the Athletic Dept. that led to JB being retired. The easy and quickest way out was to hire someone on his staff and AA was sitting in the first assistant chair. Not sure how much throught really went into that. As has been reported on here for almost 3 years, some believe AA wasn't JB's first choice, but JB did set it up to be the inevitable one.

I am not a superstitious person in general but the way things went with JB in that final presser followed by a delayed introduction on Red was a giant mess and appears to have been the omen we hoped it wasn’t. Add that to an opening presser we all gave a pass on the lack of detail or polish on the grounds of emotions and we all sadly could see it. Only to have not a single person on staff or Red ever give what sounded like a very clear understanding of Xs and Os during an interview.
