Man we suck at the portal

Not sold we are better on offense.
The offense prior to Angeli injury or after? I think a serviceable QB would have the offense being better than after the Angeli injury. Like we can’t be worse. A lot of the offensive lineman will be in year 2 and our skilled positions may be younger at wide receiver, but ceilings even higher than what we’ve had.

IMO we still need

1-2 experienced QBs and 0-1 high potential QB. In theory we should be better here.

We seem set at RB. There is potential for us to be better but right now we seem worse IMO.

Hopefully we are done at WR. We have too many IMO. I don't think we will be as good here. We are replacing 3 quality players, and 2 solid ones. We don't return much production at all. I think this position will be worse.

We lost our TE. I think someone will step up as a replacement.

The OL we lost 3 starters. I think C is a concern, and we need a portal guy there. I would like to see another portal kid to at least push what we have coming back for PT. We don't have much experience which is scary. But coaching was so bad that we should improve this year?

The DL stunk last year but we did lose our best guy IMO. Nowhere to go but up here but it is still an unknown.

We return our LBs and added one more. So we should be set here.

CBs we are all set. But Ss we lost all 3 starters. We probably need 2 portal guys here. One for sure.

We need a long snapper.

So I think we still need to find a half dozen guys, most of which need to have the ability to be plugged in and play.

I know right now this is the only portal window but I would be shocked if it isn't challenged in a court after Spring ball. Which means we could lose more players, but more importantly we can fill any holes. I think the Spring portal is important for a program like ours.
You don’t think the TE that we got from South Carolina was brought in to replace Villari?

Compared to the beginning of the year with Steve. I’m not sure we’ve replaced Gill, Cook, or JRS with equally talented guys. I think we have done fine replacing Willis. O line will hopefully be better from the coaching change, but would have liked a new starter there from the portal.

did Syracuse not hire some wonky geek dude who's only job is to seek and find talent in the portal ?
He can find the talent, but still need to recruit the player and pay them while competing against other schools with the same needs.

This is one of the more baffling things I've read on this board.

What was Gill's 1 trick, being a really good overall WR?
So we ignore that he couldn't beat press coverage. Didn't win 50/50 balls, and was a bad blocker. He was best when he was running through zones or in soft man cushions.. Having bad QB play didn't help him at all.

Outside of dominating Colgate he caught 26 passes for 350 yds. Huge catch vs Clemson. After Angelli went down he had one catch over 30 yds as our #1 outside threat and 2 catches total over 20 yds. What part of overall good WR did he excel at?

still plenty of time to fill OL. you gotta remember there’s 2 portal windows.

remember the OL overhaul we had last season after the spring game?

You consistently defended Pickie Collins to no end, and now you denigrate Gill?!?

Not sure I defended Collins, I just think he has talent but not a Div 1 QB brain.

I don't think Gill is a #1 or #2 he needs to be a #3-4 to be his best.

the thing about QB is i hope we never see the 2nd or 3rd in meaningful action.

I’d like the Mercer and or Kennesaw State kid though
I think Cuse has a very good chance at having serviceable 2nd and 3rd string QBs. Getting productive guys from G5 or high level FCS teams should be able to have some success if needed. P4 3rd string guys with high HS ratings are a crap shoot. Cuse needs sure things if Angeli isn't 100%.

I’m so far in the “good” so far but I think there needs to be a little more. I’m not over the moon (yet, trust in Fran) but not disappointed either.

I do like the experience coming in however. While you can take flyers on SEC guys it can be a bit of a lottery. Proven “good” experience is imo what this team needs rather than risks.
