Manny Diaz Out G-Rob in As Texas DC

Holy smoke, that's not good for Texas

Good guy or not he should not be coaching football at the elite level. I can't even imagine what UT fans are thinking

The guy knows defense.

Shafer had a worse record than GR at Michigan under RR.

What's the worst GR could do? Give up 550 yards rushing in a game?

Mack won't be around next year. UT can't stand being 2nd fiddle to TAMU.

I think GRob is probably a great guy. But I am continually amazed at how incestuous the coaching fraternity can be. How does he keep getting hired at a high level?

Oh give me a break.

The guy has two Super Bowl rings for gosh sakes.

And he had success at Texas before coming to CNY.

ya back in the 80's (where he was also fired) and early 90's, the game has passed him by. what has he done since he left Texas? Only buried 1 program, and set another back 5 years.

Because he is respected by those who know.

He was not a good HC and he struggled at Michigan - just like Shafer did under RR.

But his career as a very solild defensive specialist is pretty clear.

Diaz has been reassigned, not fired according to ESPN. Gerg still coming in, though.

I always love that non-descript hackneyed phrase "the game has passed him by."

It's easy - it means nothing and requires no technical football facts.

Which program did he bury? I seem to recall him being the HC of only one program.

Guy has coached at SU, Texas, UCLA, Michigan, the Broncos, Chiefs and Jets. Just because he was a bad fit as SU head coach doesn't mean he doesn't know anything. Plenty of big time programs and NFL teams think so. Those opinions are infinitely more reliable than SU fans.

Let's see I am trying to think of one...It starts with an S though

And as for game passing him by do you deny that the offenses currently being run in both the NFL and CFB are completely different from when he was the Bronco's DC in the late 90's? That is the game passing you by, not being able to keep up.

Just look around at all the jokes right now and social media by respected analysts who cover the leagues, and you will find out that it's just not Syracuse fans with hurt feelings.

True enough but he was a disaster at two of those jobs (at least). He had the same position at Michigan. Slim pickings at this point in the season. However, I don't wish anyone ill so I wish him the best.

And at Michigan he was made to run the WVU 3-5 defense, just like Shafer had been, which doesn't work in the B10. I'm surprised he even took that job. He didn't get the job, but he also interviewed at LSU with Miles.

You mean the people on social media that everyone rips, including people here? If they were so smart they'd be coaching football instead of playing on twitter.

I guess we will just have to sit back and see how this turns out for UT then. I hope he still has his muppet

Gonna be hard to do worse than 500+ yards rushing given up.

Which program did he "set back five years"? Certainly not Michigan. Who then?

Robinson faced the spread against WVU and had success. That's part of the reason why RR hired him. So he knows how to defend the "modern" offenses. Just as many old time DCs do.

You know you sound like bad talk radio - you obviously listen to a lot of it. The fact is that most of the guys you listen to on the radio don't know that much about football or any other sport - they are glorified fans who say what they have to say to get people to riled up. Of course they're are going to question Robinson - that creates discussion.

I do give you credit though for figuring out that GR was part of two winning Super Bowl teams in 1998 and 1999 - not the 1980s or early 1990s.

Yes.

And I for one hope he does well.

I gather you are rooting against him.
