Manny Diaz Out G-Rob in As Texas DC

Some of your attributions don't jibe with the conversation I had with Ryan Nassib's mom before the Minnesota game last year about their family's feelings about each respective coaching staff.

Robinson definitely deserves credit for recognizing Nassib as a prospect and recruiting him. No argument there. But besides his redshirt year, the entire rest of his career and development were all on Marrone. Kid ended up being the most prolific single season passer in program history. I credit the coaching staff we had, not the previous staff that brought him in but wasn't involved in developing him over the full course of his career.

I didn't attribute his development to Robinson. Robinson recruited him, Lemon, Pugh, Sales and to an extent Chibane. Who knows how each would have turned out.

I was referring to the attributions you made earlier in this thread about what previous players think about Grob / Marrone, and offering a divergent perspective from the mom of our starting QB--about the guy who recruited her son.

Did you talk to her after that game? ;)

Again, mostly kidding...but honestly, what's she supposed to say?

Btw, Robinson was already on the Texas staff and promoted him to DC. He was doing film analysis, data analysis and quality control. He was hired in July.

Nope. Spent about two hours with her prior to the game, though. And she was pretty candid about both head coaches.

And please keep in mind that this was early in the season, when we were 1-2, about to have the worst performance of the season, and the pleasant second half of the season / bowl berth / bowl win weren't secure. So this wasn't a reverential, hindsight, everything is positive in the aftermath of winning the Pinstripe Bowl "hooray for us" conversation.

You have the perfect argument. If a kid did nothing, it's because he was a Robinson recruit. If a kid does well, it had nothing to do with Robinson recruiting the kid, it was Marrone making him a player.

Understood, I am more cranky about the Giants putting it on the carpet right now.

I've talked to a few parents along the way, find it odd for them to bite the hand that gives their kid a scholly.

Grob was a disaster who trashed the program. Winning 8 games was more of a scheduling thing and a tribute to marrone. I think you could still make the argument that were still pretty subpar.

Ok, let me put it a different way. If the program had been buried or set back 5 years, we somehow after 1 season managed to have a 3 year record of 21-17 compared to the 3 year record of 16-20 prior to Robinson taking over.

The program had a terrible 4 year stretch but by no means was buried, left for dead nor set back 5 years.

We were 11-17 in big east play over last 4 years...sadly we got quite a few soft wins (and a couple decent ones)

I guess you don't count the 4 years he was there, Marrone's first year, and even the struggles this year as a result of that. I'd call 8 years just trying to get back to where P left it as wasted, set back years. When Robinson left, it was easily the worst BCS program and one of the worst in D-1. What do you call that?

I always felt Robinson was limited while at SU. The QB who he recruited who was essential to implementing the West Coast Offense was denied admission. The MLB he recruited who was going to be the lynchpin of his bend, don't break, read and react defense, never played a snap due to a medical condition. That and he couldnt coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Here's the thing about coaching. You can't fake it. A coach that appears lost, is. He always looked confused, disorganized...it's a bad sign.

Huh? Read my post again. And think about what it says.

Full Circle. That's where we got him from.

greg robinson has polaroids of pete carroll daryl gross and mack brown's human centipede halloween costume. it's the only explanation

this is not as absurd as the posts saying he's good at any job in any way

You can say whatever you want about Greg as a football coach, and rightfully so for what happened at SU; however, he is a good guy with a great wife and family. I wish him the best.
