Manny Diaz Out G-Rob in As Texas DC

Next thing you know we will be hearing that P was hired somewhere. Oh wait . . . .

No, just kidding guys, best of luck to P, D, GRob, Marrone, Frank Maloney . . . . everybody!

I'll assume you mean "football smart". I've known, and know, plenty of football coaches at the HS and college level. I also know plenty of posters. When it comes to football, I'll take the coaches. Unless it's a Monday morning.

Oh yeah, there're plenty of dummies on these boards. But the average coach is also dumb as a plank. I think if a moderately intelligent person devoted the same amount of time to the study of football as the professionals do, they could diagnose, strategize, and scheme circles around them. Even without the specialist's knowledge, the moderately intelligent can see problems that perhaps the tunnel-vision coach doesn't. That doesn't mean that the layman would beat the average coach because there's more than strategy and planning involved in football, but that's not what we're arguing here.

He is 23-17 since 2010 with one of the most talented rosters in college football each of those seasons. Congrats on being over .500. A great coach would be destroying it with that talent.

I agree with you that Texas is an underachiever given their recruiting.

Because he is respected by those who know.

He was not a good HC and he struggled at Michigan - just like Shafer did under RR.

But his career as a very solild defensive specialist is pretty clear.

He didn't struggle at Michigan he was a complete disaster, just like here.

The year Shafer was there Michigan was 50th in run defense, 87th in pass defense, 67th in total defense, 84th in scoring, 33rd in sacks, 38th in tackles for a loss.

Robinson took a torch to the thing. 2010 Michigan 95th run defense, 112th pass defense, 110th total defense, 108th scoring defense, 98th in sacks, 77th in tackles for loss.

That's not struggling, it's a barn fire.

That's as bad as the state he left the SU defense in two years earlier, where he was below 100 in every defensive category.

Tell us about the Texas roster.

What do you know about it? Name the great players on the 2011 squad.

And tell us more.

After 2009 - when after he went 13-1, did Mack Brown suddenly let the game pass him by??

How did that happen?

Did he eat bad lobster during the summer of 2010?

i can tell you they are losing now with the same exact of players that they have always recruited, from the same exact schools. Who knows what could have happened in his personal life? Do you know he is still as dedicated as he once was? Do I? No, all we see are the results, and they aren't there, but it's not because of talent.

Either way enjoy cheering for Mack and Grob this year because they won't be around next.

Bees and I disagree on this one.

I think he's a good guy. And I think he's a very good, perhaps great coach.

I spoke to him twice in social settings which were suppose to be fun. He was a bore and a very critical person. Robinson, I'd go have a beer with. Shafer, I'd go have a beer with. Marrone? Not so much.

He is Nostradamus though. His exact words to me, and a few others, his first spring were "I was hired to do two things. Win and put people in the stands. If I haven't done that in 5 years, I'll leave."

Who did he have? The Michigan fans bitched incessantly about Carr not caring about recruiting defense. And you must forget, that Grobs first year here, he significantly improved the defensive stats from the year before. Then the 3 year abyss of P recruiting hit.

Great guy, better coach than given credit for.

He deserves no credit. Awful, disaster, he crushed SU's football program. It took four years just to get back to being competitive. SU has a top 60 to 40 program right now as opposed to bottom 10, which is remarkable, but still a long way to go.

I hope Grob does ok at Texas. I think he was way better recruiter than Marrone but as a coach I think Marrone was like Rockne compared to GROB.

How did Marrone win 8 in year 2? We weren't competitive? Marrone should also send a thank you to Grob for Nassib, Pugh, Lemon, Sales and a little of Chibane. We see now what they were.

Marrone is under rated as a recruiter. He wasn't great at selling the highly rated recruit, but there aren't many better at identifying under the radar talent. Our freshman and sophmore classes are loaded with talented players thanks to Marrone. Grob couldn't coach, or recruit. Sure he was able to sell a couple decent kids, but his staffs couldn't identify talent to for nothing. He was a parasite to this program, good guy or not.

I'm sorry, but Marrone and his staff are responsible for developing those guys. I seriously doubt they would have turned into the players they are now if they were under Robinson and his staff.

yep, and Grob had a little help putting this program in the tank...oops I said it

cant be true- everyone here knows you cant fire a co-ordinator after 2 games --

Your rant might actually hold water but for the fact that Diaz was in his third year as DC at Texas. He was already on the hot seat at Texas after their defense's performance in 2012. Nice try at drawing parallels though.

you aren't trying to say we would have been a bowl team that year if Grob stayed right?

He had a bunch of NFL players on that defense, and that include Tanard Jackson, Jamel McClain, Kelvin Smith, and Jerry Mackey, who were sophomores and juniors his first year. And again, if the talent was so bad he should have gone out and got enough better players.

Fact is he failed across the board.

The guy is a walking incendiary device.

Yep, he had some good defensive talent that first year. Why weren't they so good the year prior? And after that first year, where was the talent?

Is that what I said? My reply was in response to setting the program back 5 years or burying them or having no talent on the roster or whatever.

Oh I don't know, he did the best he could with the few players that could play, filled in with freshmen and transfers and won 8 games on smoke and mirrors.

Robinson was as close to a disaster at every aspect of head coaching as you can get. The numbers speak for themseleves. The national rep hit that we took because of grob was tough to recover from. Schools like UConn started talking that they had a better program than us. As for all those football people that hire him. Almost all of them fired him as well.

And rode GRob's under the radar QB like he was Secretariat then left when he did.

I am partially kidding.
