Manny Diaz Out G-Rob in As Texas DC

Which program did he "set back five years"? Certainly not Michigan. Who then?

Robinson faced the spread against WVU and had success. That's part of the reason why RR hired him. So he knows how to defend the "modern" offenses. Just as many old time DCs do.

You know you sound like bad talk radio - you obviously listen to a lot of it. The fact is that most of the guys you listen to on the radio don't know that much about football or any other sport - they are glorified fans who say what they have to say to get people to riled up. Of course they're are going to question Robinson - that creates discussion.

I do give you credit though for figuring out that GR was part of two winning Super Bowl teams in 1998 and 1999 - not the 1980s or early 1990s.

yep he was so respected that he was an assistant high school coach last year, and some sort of tv analyst this season. really sounded like people were banging down his door to give him a job

I can't keep track of your agruments.

You first dismiss the fact that Mack Brown - a great football coach - believes that Robinson can coach defense. That, according to you, means nothing - the social media pundits are what count.

You then circle back with "none of the coaches out there hired him last year - that means nobody respects him."

The guy knows defense.

Shafer had a worse record than GR at Michigan under RR.

What's the worst GR could do? Give up 550 yards rushing in a game?

Or GRob has a job because Mack Brown is simply out of ideas?

In nearly every argument we have on this board about coaching (ours or someone else's), there's always one side that takes a position behind which stands the assumption that the coaches are smarter than us, that there is some rhyme or reason to everything they do, so maybe we ought to clam up about it. But maybe we shouldn't be assuming that. Maybe it's more likely that a good percentage of these coaches are not all that smart and that they don't know what they're doing in every football situation even if they've spent their entire lives around the game. If they were really smart, they probably wouldn't be coaching football. And it's probably to our society's benefit overall that we haven't given these people more responsibility!

I just don't get how you can discount a board member's opinion by pointing to the "greater wisdom" of the coaching fraternity. The truth of the matter is that there are probably lots of folks on these boards who are smarter than 99% of the coaches out there. They might not be "nicer" than them, but they're certainly smarter than them.

Mack won't be around next year. UT can't stand being 2nd fiddle to TAMU.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ He's toast even if they finish with a winning record again this year.

in case you haven't been paying attention lately, Mack Brown, the "once" great coach, has absolutely the bed the last 5 years. Makes perfect sense for a guy that the game has passed by to hire one of his buddies who is in the same boat. They will both be out after this year.

ya back in the 80's (where he was also fired) and early 90's, the game has passed him by. what has he done since he left Texas? Only buried 1 program, and set another back 5 years.

Who did he bury and who did he set back 5 years? Which one are you saying was SU?

Btw, if our program was buried or set back 5 years, I don't know how Marrone won 8 games and a bowl in year 2.

Hey, I'm wishing Coach Robinson the best.

I hope he has success.

He's a good guy.
Since when does being a complete fraud who has bilked three programs qualify you as "a good guy."

He bilked 3 schools? LOL. They hired him.

He completely buried Syracuse. Marrone is just an amazing coach. He helped Rich Rod further bury Michigan. Michigan is just now getting back to being a year in and year out top 20 team.

First thing I'd ask is if Gump was really the second coming of Buddy Ryan why was he even available for this hire ? That's right....

Guy has coached at SU, Texas, UCLA, Michigan, the Broncos, Chiefs and Jets. Just because he was a bad fit as SU head coach doesn't mean he doesn't know anything. Plenty of big time programs and NFL teams think so. Those opinions are infinitely more reliable than SU fans.

Good for him, he was as bad as possible at KC, SU, and Michigan. He was co-DC for his one year prior stint at Texas.

So just so I have this straight are you guys arguing that Robinson is a great coach, or a great guy, because there is a difference.

I'll assume you mean "football smart". I've known, and know, plenty of football coaches at the HS and college level. I also know plenty of posters. When it comes to football, I'll take the coaches. Unless it's a Monday morning.

Wrong on every count.

Great guy, better coach than given credit for.

You have to research better.

In 2009 he was 13-1 at Texas and last year was 9-4.

When exactly did the game "pass him by."

If he had one 10 games last year would the game not have passed him by? Or 11 games?

What is the "game has passed him by" analytic anyway?

Can't you see how you seem so influenced by talk radio - that you really have no idea what you're talking about?

This concussion riddled sport is so dumb. I love it

But Millhouse that's not fair. Everybody is stupid, remember?

He is 23-17 since 2010 with one of the most talented rosters in college football each of those seasons. Congrats on being over .500. A great coach would be destroying it with that talent.

Michigan was 8-5 last year and 11-2 the year before.

Tell us about the Texas roster.

What do you know about it? Name the great players on the 2011 squad.

And tell us more.

After 2009 - when after he went 13-1, did Mack Brown suddenly let the game pass him by??

How did that happen?

Did he eat bad lobster during the summer of 2010?
