Maraad Watson transferring to Texas

Oh my bad on wording that’s what I meant pre revenue sharing our corporate nil was bottom 15. I don’t know what it is now but I’m sure still bottom 20 or around there.

Which sport? Football? Corporate NIL alone or all NIL?

That’s the other thing..maybe there’s a Maraad in this class
All I know is Brown has improved the foster significantly already in this current environment. At a minimum he’s raised the floor, which is needed when you need to win with depth instead of multiple five stars.

Every year is a free agent year and sometimes you don’t get into bidding wars for guys because you can make up the production with what you already have.

Spend your money on Qb’s, LT, and edge. Just like the NFL.

I think everyone can relax in regards to this player.

We aren't competing with Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, or Tennessee when it comes to NIL and other benefits.

We've come a long way, and are doing ok, but let's be real. Unless someone comes through with a T Boone Pickens donation or Phil Knight level commitment, the program isn't winning head to head too often against those programs.

No one argued otherwise. Just saying the cupboards not bare.
We just lost arguably our best offense and defensive player in the span of a couple days. It doesn’t matter if we have a couple names behind them to be inserted. You can never expect to be consistently successful if we get our best players picked off each year. Unfortunately, this madness is just beginning.

So then we shouldn’t recruit them out of high school either when they have offers from these schools? It would save the staff time and resources if they just crossed off the names of recruits that have factory school offers. That way they can spend more time on the recruits with MAC school only offers. Until of course they produce and get poached by the factory schools.

Yeah - I’ll wait to see how the spring and summer round out before preparing for doom. Still have time to make additions.

That’s the thing though. We can identify as many Maraad’s as possible that have decent productivity as true freshman but you don’t get the game changing ability from these kids until they’re in their 2nd, 3rd, or potentially 4th yr. If they’re going to get picked off every time we identify a true freshman all-american it really won’t mean much. Comparing Maraad as a true Freshman to what he should be these next couple years is like comparing totally different players.

Did I say that?

You are competing for proven high end talent with factories that have DEEEEEP NIL, the odds are not in your favor.

Lets say in this instance you offer Maraad $800k and are willing to go to $1.2m.

Those four programs are coming at him with $1.5m and willing to go higher to secure him.

The impact to our program committing the $1.2m is greater than the impact to them committing $1.8m for the same player.

You still compete and hope relationships win out, but to cry and whine about the state of the program when you are going head to head with a program that can throw out a financial offer that will dwarf what we can muster, it is just pointless whining.

FWIW Watson got a 4 star 92 transfer grade #57 overall

Justin Neal the CB transfer from Stanford we missed on got the same and #74 overall

Peña got a 4 star 91 transfer grade #121 overall

That’s a lot of talent

Contracts with WHO? What agent would allow this? Why would a player do this? Would a court allow it?

You guys have to think before saying “they should change it to this because I want Syracuse to be good”
Once the house settlement is approved the rules will change. We are now seeing coaches not agreeing to player demands for more money. I think contracts will be the next phase of this awful process

Contracts with who?????

The schools? So are they employees? How does that limit NIL?

You are just saying “contracts” with no context whatsoever

I have no idea what Watson was rated but if memory serves he was headed to Kent State
He was commited to Kent state I believe as a junior and then Tennessee and Syracuse came in senior year. His final 2 on signing day was Tennessee or Syracuse.

Ya think?! That’s correct and it’s always been correct (at least since the 1970’s). Or as the kids say it is what it is, or as I say about life in general and now here, it’s the golden rule……he who has the gold rules, which in turn allows the Rich to get richer.

It’s always been this way, and always will be this way.

This is a bit of a misguided figure.

Basketball has 20+ home games and football has 6 maybe 7 if we are lucky.

Not really comparing apples to apples there by comparing total number of fans
I took the point of his figures to show that basketball is more influential / attended relative to football at Syracuse, therefore, their revenue sharing reflects this?

Compared to a school like Alabama who gets 100k to every football game versus 15k at each of their basketball games. Even with significantly less games, the football team is going to have way more fans / influence compared to basketball at ‘Bama. So there’s no issue if revenue sharing reflects that also.

That’s the apple to apples I understood. Basketball is more of an influence at Syracuse compared to football especially when compared to the bigger football schools.

a school like Syracuse needs to harvest buy-out settlements when their players get poached by SEC and Big Ten schools. So I would say the contracts would be between the player and the school. If a private school like Syracuse needs to treat athletes as employees, that will be the next phase.

The school would offer players a multi year contract (2-3 years) with buyout provisions. It’s similar to schools hiring head coaches to multi year contracts with descending buyouts.

Who are they signing these multi year contracts with?
