Maraad Watson transferring to Texas

Obviously this “system” of CFB that is not a system at all, has been discussed to death.

But I will add, fans will very quickly come to the conclusion that you’re probably better off not feeding the beast.

A

Yet our providing the opportunity for this late blossoming recruit to play as a freshman and get tons of film is the reason he’s getting poached.
If it didn’t happen this year it would have happened next year. Can’t stop inevitability.

He’s might of started because of injury last year. But he was a freshman all American last year. He would easily start and be our best defensive player.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t be in the rotation - he would. But he’s not the starter.

Agreed and didn't they say publicly it was $15 million for Football, $3 Million for BB, $1 Million for WBB, and $1 for Others or am I just making that up
That's what I recalled

Hard to believe that

Not saying you are wrong, but I personally find that hard to be accepted by Fran
Have you heard him talk about it on every podcast? He doesn’t sound like he accepts it at all. Hes the football coach, this is above him and he needs to work with what he has.

Guys the NIL is fine, from what I’m hearing it’s the rev share is the issue. SU is allocating millions less to football than its pier schools. The reason? Basketball. Meaning, Football is starting behind and NIL can’t make up the millions other schools have.
Syracuse's issue is that there is a very successful basketball program (recent performance notwithstanding) which generates significant revenues and draws more fans than football. Comparing 2023/2024 basketball attendance (324.6k) with 2024 football attendance (274k) and you can see more fans attend Syracuse basketball games than football games. So, to offset Syracuse's rev share issues for football, NIL money needs to be raised. That is why Coach Brown wants to raise $6 to $8 million in NIL money on top of revenue sharing for football.

That's how the $20 million from the House settlement will be distributed. The money that SU will legally be able to pay athletes.

It has nothing to do with NIL funds. That's a different pool.

Right I knew it and NIL where separate, was just trying to remember how they said the $20 million would be paid out.

What coach would want to put themselves through this in the current college football game?

Do you have to re-recruit everyone on your roster every off-season, simultaneously recruiting high school players and portal transfers, what allows and state of affairs.
This is why Fran was a genius hire. Not sure he becomes a HC this fast in the non-portal/NIL era.

That's why the need contracts for a minimum of 2-3 years on these kids. I know if I were a coach I would probably be ready to pack it in after a few years or so. Very, very stressful with all this NIL BS. Something needs to be done and soon.
The thing is, Fran Brown came into the head coaching gig fully prepared that it was going to be this way… He’s no 25 year head coach comfortable and trapped in his own tradition. He’s the guy everybody else has to watch out for, and he signed up for exactly this.

The fact is, nobody heard of Watson when we flipped him from Kent State. So Fran either does what it takes to keep Watson, or he’ll go get another.

He’s not going to break from this horrible new Head Coaching situation, he’s going to thrive. He already has, compared to all the coaches going back to Pasqualoni.

Where’d you get that number from? It’s really not close. Common sense says if basketball was getting an extra $4-$5m we’d have brought in a couple 5 star studs.
At SU there’s alot more to where the rev share money gets distributed to. To think it only goes to the big 3 is incorrect.

He wasn't going to start! They brought in Chris Thomas who is pretty good and they really Like Dion Wilson... Thomas and Wilson were going to be the two starters with Maraad and Jobity rotating in!
