The worst part of all this is having to revise a well written and very logical post which events have shown to be seriously naive and premature.

Marone's legacy (updated):

1) he left with the job only partly done to pursue another opportunity.

b) by leaving at this time, he has put into jeoparty the hard work and accomplishments of the last 4 years by badly damaging the continuity of leadership of existing staff by taking at least one key staff member (on day one) who was responsible for the key position of quarterback and the offensive portion of the team.

c) he urged and required extroadinary discipline and work effort from players and staff members for the good of the "team" and the University, only to depart at a key turning point in a manner that puts into question his own committment to the "team" and University.

d) A new OC will have to begin anew to establish personal relationships with players, recruits, and coaches who serve as all important recruiting contacts and master and implement the details and execution of the offense.

e) his actions in taking away the OC on day one make it impossible to interpret the true meaning of his claim that SU was his "dream job" in order to rebuild the program.

In short, congratulations to coach DM, but in my opinion he has chosen to behave like a not untypical mercenary and has clouded his legacy as a person and put into question his actual contribution to the SU football program.

It will be up to the SU AD and new head coach to repair the damage.

These views are from the distant bleachers and subject to continuing update.
