That was emotional to hear

Marrone was distraught. It was very sad to hear him talk about losing a close friend when he should have been celebrating his first NFL victory. Marrone is a class act and I give him credit for honoring Rob Edson before taking about the game.

I had no issue ever with the way he left, football is a business, college or pro. I wish he had stayed. Disagree with me if you want. I always thought he was genuinely a good guy in a tough business. I always thought he had the best interests of his players first and the program at heart. It does not surprise me that he is emotional.

That being said, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Edson family. Lost my father very young as well, I know how it feels.

I met and spoke with Doug personally and I couldn't agree with you more. I wish the absolute best for him and his family. I have no doubt that he wants the best for our alma mater.

I was disappointed when Doug left. Why wouldn't I be?

I always thought he was a good guy under that very controlled facade. Best of luck to him, and my thoughts go out to the Edson family and friends.

i for one was upset that he took hackett at the 11th hour . After further thought he has an obligation to put together the best possible staff in buffalo and if he felt hackett was the best guy , he did the right thing by hiring him.

Not surprised to see that. Marrone worked so closely with Rob and Sue during his time. I thought it was very classy for him to make such a statement during his press conference. My heart goes out to the Edson family on this terrible loss.

I believe we could have kept Hackett or Shafer, but not both. One was going to get hired. The other was going to get gone.

Agree, across the board. I wish he would have stayed two more years to keep continuity, and to not have upheaval when we were still just barely over the hump. But I don't begrudge him for leaving to be an NFL coach. Sh-t, it is downright hypocritical to suggest that people shouldn't pursue their best financial interests, even if it is disappointing as a fan of SU football.

Marrone wasn't the most emotive guy, and I think that turned off a segment of the fanbase. But displays like the one linked above show how genuine it is when he does get emotional.

I've believed since he left that Marrone's legacy will be established by how well Shafer does. If Shafter sustains the program and continues the forward momentum, that eventually the hard feelings will alleviate and most people will credit Marrone for the remarkable program turnaround / transformation he orchestrated. Doesn't mean that I'm happy about the nature of his departure, him raiding the staff, etc. But if Shafer is successful, then I think that in time Marrone will be regarded with the appropriate level of reverence for his time at SU.

I clicked on this video expecting to see Marrone say a few things and move on. What I saw and heard blew my mind. Marrone bleeds Orange no matter what anyone thinks. For him to do that, and get that emotional, was touching. I am rooting for him even harder now.

Also lost a father young and always backed HCDM what gets me is how people don't realize but for Doug we could be UCONN right now. Little small minds take shoots at people, it is truely disgusting, and reflects more on themselves.

I think turning this thread into the 1000th rehashing of his departure could be avoided.

Amazing. Coach Marrone isa very emotional guy.

His tribute to Rob and Sue was heartfelt and totally in character.

I miss him a great deal.

I had my issues with the way Coach Marrone left, however the last two weeks I've found myself watching good chunks of the Bills game and pulling for them like I never have.

Not that it means jack, but I've forgiven the man and decided it's time to move on.

After Coach's touching and heartfelt tribute I'll be pulling for him and the Bills until they run into the Chief's in the AFC championship game :)
