Melo Center Naming

And Paulie added that Manley Field House is part of the Lally Athletics Complex, which it officially is not.

What are you talking about?? Manley is essentially the center of the whole complex.

I get it, this all can be hard to tell if you have never gotten to go inside the athletics complex. But literally this is ALL one building connected together.

Steve Infanti just mentioned this on Orange Nation. Categorically stated that Melo was absolutely aware and in favor of the move. Gave this as an example of a random social media post that has no basis in fact and grows legs. (My words).
I know he was but still didn’t need to happen that way. Could have left that area alone imo

My rule of thumb would be that cooler names prevail on cooler facilities!

If Tirico or Costas give $5, put their names on some cool ****.

If Melo gives $5 put his name all over cool ****.

If Gadsen gives $5 after winning a Super Bowl with the Chargers next year, put his name on some cool ****.

Heck, I'd call it the JMA Wireless MELO DOME - just cause he's one of 87 people that still attends a lot of home games and 'The Melo Dome' sounds cool! :)

If people without household names give money, give them gigantic fonts all over the buildings the dorks use. All of them! They can have all those!

The exception is if they have a cool last name - Manley sounds badass. I'd keep that one.

100% joking. :)

He’s doing some other things at the moment to add some sizzle to the steak
With all due respect this has already been known as you stated. people are attempting to make something out of nothing and it is honestly Ill will and drama. The former player has serious issues, borderline dangerous if you do not agree with his delusions. This is from a Syracuse homer for sure, who unequivocally has objectivity however. I very much appreciate all you do for the goodness of Cuse

Etan needs to be muzzled. My man is losing it.

Actually its quite funny how some of the people who have recently been distanced from the program are throwing fire on this absolute nothing burger.

Sure makes you go hmmmm.
From someone who is and has been so generous because of big picture student athlete initiatives. They are also aware of the current climate we live in as it relates to literally what is considered a true attack on student athletes, on all levels, except those project at a high Division 1 level to specific institutions seemingly now. , The entire system is what supported all arms of major college athletics and it certainly and exclusively did not consist of athletes who went on to play professional sports. the percentage is 2% for Division One athletes as it relates to college football and less than that certainly as it relates to college basketball.

What happens to the rest, They can be exponentially impacted with the college experience and most importantly the benefits of a college degree, socialization, meeting new friends, future business colleagues and most importantly family impacts that literally penetrate society in a beneficial way. For so many would not have had this opportunity otherwise. That was me and so many others. I hope it can be fixed, I honestly do not think so however and that is much bigger than Syracuse University. However I will not forget what it did for me and so many others. We will see.

The above gentleman in my opinion is not reflective of such ideals as evidenced by his behavior. I will stick by the Rudy Hacketts of the world who was much before me.

There’s plenty of those, but they aren’t giving 25 million
Yeah .. it’s a lot. Build a statue or something . A huge plaque. Don’t stick a name on something that has a name already from a more important donor

22M in additional funds says he isn’t more important. I don’t agree with that but that’s how the world works

The dollar amount doesn’t supersede the name recognition and legacy. There is no dollar amount that can ever supplant that

Let’s be real.

How many basketball players/recruits/etc. are saying “I’m heading over to the Melo center at the Lally Complex for practice”

The reality here is it’s still the Melo Center, always has been. A guy gave us $25M (I’ve heard he’s also given more recently too but don’t know that as fact) and they named the complex after him and put up a sign in the doorway.

More than just "a sign", it's many signs and I heard that when you turn on a light switch, instead of the typical click sound, it says "Lally". And, if you yell down the hallway, instead of it echoing what you said, it echos "LALLY".

Didn't this just happen to the Dome and everyone seemed totally cool with it?

Seemed pretty clear that Steve had spoken directly to Melo. He’s a journalist.
Paulie says stuff. Think he just meant that entire complex at Colvin and Comstick has been christened the Lally Center. and there are individual buildings named for other donors within the center

It's funny, I parked at Manley (or Lally...or next to the Melo Center at Lally) on Saturday, noticed the Lally sign on the Melo building and thought "Interesting, I have never noticed that before". Got home, and then saw it on social media.

I sort of chalked it up to naming fields and courts at buildings. The Jim Boeheim Court at the JMA Wireless Dome. It literally happens all the time.

Melo's building is literally a building at a larger athletic complex. Assuming SU had good communication with the donor (in this case a high profile athlete), there really is nothing to see here. Just Etan trying to stir up drama. He's starting to fall into the "he's the worst" category.

It is kind of ridiculous that Lally insisted on putting his name on the Melo Center in extra big font. I worry about a booster and BOT member who insists on overshadowing Melo on his own building. There’s no need. We all appreciate the $25 million but you can also be humble and check your ego when it came to the Melo Center. It would also be nice if Melo would donate some more money to upgrade the facility.

Carmelo's knowledge/consent is only a part of the story.
It's still all very ugly.
It's still a part of the media. Don't they often show the (former-)Melo Center when talking about Syracuse hoops during broadcasts? Now, to the world, there's some rando name on top, 10x the size.
Lastly, because i hate this whole topic—

Is Lally's name larger, more garishly prominent than even the University's name? Is there anywhere on campus where it says Syracuse University even half as loudly?

I'm happy someone is contributing to 'my' school. But, damn—why is the result so tacky/cheesy/ugly?

Build beauty.
