Miami Postgame

The attendance the rest of this year is pretty much done for.
But they don't want to embarrass him, and I get that, too.

Is it more embarrassing to be fired midseason, or to listen to the student section cheering for you to be fired at remaining home games?

I don’t think firing a guy midseason accomplishes much - but allowing him to coach the rest of year while he gets booed and jeered at is like waterboarding the poor guy. I’m ok with it since it feels like an appropriate punishment for his incompetence at coaching - but if I was Red I would celebrate being let go tomorrow. I still get paid, but can do it from my couch for a while - not a bad deal.

It’s ’tough sledding,’ getting through these threads these days, but seeing so many calls to fire Red “today/now,” I still haven’t seen the practical, realistic suggestion for who to install for the balance of the season. Did I miss it?

You're right, it won't and can't really happen.
It would satisfy some people, but they won't do that.
But this season is over.
Red is gone.
There will be "no meaningful games in March".

You know, Syracuse has not hired a coach on the open market in around 75 years in hoops.

In football, it has mostly been in-house promotions, too, until GRob.

And then after him, they went with an SU guy, and another in-house promotion of an assistant after he left.

Gerry is not remotely qualified for this job. Maybe in 5-10 years, but not at all right now.

We need a grown up coach who has succeeded at a couple different places, and has a solid history.

We don't need a flash in the pan guy who has been a head coach for only a couple years. We don't need anybody else's assistants.

WE NEED REAL COACHING.
If you read my post, I said I would have rather had Gerry than Red at the time.

At looking at how they have both done as head coaches, I stand by that.

Do I want to see Gerry as coach one day, Yeah.
But for everyone’s sake that is probably 10 years in the future.

I totally get what you're saying. But think about this university.
They are so milquetoast. No way they fire him now.
None of the assistants are good enough to be head coach.
That tells you all you need to know about Autry.
He was afraid to have smarter people around him.
That's not a leader.

And I'm saying that hiring an inexperienced coach was a mistake, and would have also been a mistake if it had been Gerry OR Red.
Both would have been mistakes.

It’s not even just wildhack. The whole board is so inept and is behind on everything. NIL we were late as one example. Syracuse doesn’t run a college athletics like these other schools do and I still question why.
It's the fault of the leadership of the board and that isn't going to change anytime soon.
So I won't be surprised if we get another bad hire that fails. Until that changes expect this program to suffer. It's not up to JW or whoever the Chancellor is It's one or 2 board members at the top who if the don't approve then the hiring won't go through.

I bet they hire another young guy without much experience as a way to save money and tell us he's a total up and comer.

JW said meaningful game in March
We're not even getting meaningful games in January.
After BC loss I figured .500 in conference record at best. After 2 more home losses I don't think they are gonna be .500 overall

It's not going to make any difference, any good coach isn't going to come here, if they look closely at all the things that have gone on since 2014. The last time we were good, they will realize the stink originates outside the Athetic department, and no matter what the AD says he doesn't have the final say on things.

Hard to argue with most of that, I just hope it's truly not the case 100%

You're probably right. And they will get what they pay for.
