Mike Hopkins and UW

Right now, they have 5 guys with .8 or more blocks per game and 6 guys with .8 or more steals per game. That's nutty.
Haven’t kept up with their roster. Pretty much plays all seniors and has a sophomore coming off the bench. Will be interesting if he can catch lightning via the transfer portal with more seasoned players.

This is what we have to do this season—attack the basket on almost every play and play a lot tougher on defense and on the boards. Hop’s UW team beat Xavier and almost knocked off San Diego State (who beat St Mary’s). It’ll be interesting to see if Hop and his team can put together a tourney-caliber season and save his job.

They might regret dropping one to Nevada as the P12 is up. I think he’s year to year until he misses the Dance.

Adding little Wheeler from UK to Brooks makes them a good scoring team and they have all those unicorn defensive players as mentioned.

Wheeler is killing then 11% from deep or something.

The Gonzaga money line was the last leg of my 9 game parlay. Walked out of Carrot Top (Was actually a pretty good show) and the game was tied, like 7 mins to go. Caesars was offering me a little more than half the winnings for a cash out. I’ve never cashed out before.

I told my better half that if the game was still tied by time we got to the next bar I’d cash out and we could root for UW. Got distracted a few times, game was over before we got to the bar. Ugh. Nice win for Mike and UW tho! Love to see it

Holy moly, Hopkins huskies just knocked off a top 10 team in Gonzaga, good for Mike!
Washington has been solid this year. Hop got some pretty good transfers and kept a few of their better players from last year. He might just save his job if they can finish in the top 4-5 of the PAC 12. They only lost to top 15 team Colorado State by a few points last weekend. Glad to see they beat the Zags!

They’re good.

Two transfers from Kentucky, Kepnang off injury, Rutgers starter from last year, and a solid mid-major guy from Portland in the starting 5.

By comparison, our lineup is weak.

Just saying. They have more talent than our team. Is this not an SU forum?

Happy UW is having success with Hopkins. I think he would have been a better choice. Personal opinion.
Looks to me like Red is having no issues bringing in talent considering the portal players he brought in on top of two top 50 seniors next season. This an interesting take after playing probably our best game of the season yesterday.

UW has a fun team some unicorn defenders who block shots and get a ton of steals 2 Kentucky transfer ISO guys and a couple 3 point specialists.

SDSU and Colorado state aren’t bad losses they should have pretty good SOS metrics but we’d be killing Red if he lost to someone like Nevada early.

Kepnang getting injured early last year really hurt them. They might have made the tourney with him. He can be a beast in the middle.

The post is a gem.

Exactly. Red wanted some roster continuity for his first season. Next spring we will probably get a few good proven players out of the portal, since our NIL situation will be improved, and a few of our current guys, like Carey and Benny?, will transfer out.

All I said is that as currently constructed, our roster is weaker than UW. And all things considered, I would have chosen Hopkins. All things are not equal. And I am hopeful he can get it going again with more talent. But make no mistake, we have below bubble team level talent on this team overall.

Not for nothing, but this take by you is getting old considering you were one of our former Shooting Guards biggest critics and now he’s the second leading scorer on a top 20 team. And Boeheim was the reason Benny stunk, but lets keep wanting to run guys off though.

Girard, in the right situation, is a decent enough player. He is surrounded by much better players now. This is his 5th college year. He should never have played 30-35 mpg for 4 straight years at SU. Ever.

He was also miscast as a point guard for the majority of his career. That's Boeheim's fault.

Circumstantial evidence to prove your point. But sure, I was the main reason he left. Give me a break.

There are 3 current starters on SU's team who are fine 5th-6th-7th men on a good team. We can and should want to do better.
