Mikel was a great representative of Syracuse and see him having a similar career that Zaire has had, but hopefully he gets the opportunity just a bit sooner.

On another note I have been very surprised just how many players from all the previous bowls have chosen to play in their bowl game and then we make a bowl game for the first time in 5 years and all our draft eligible guys opt out.

Agree on Mikel. I got to know him a bit when he was a freshman. Outstanding student and person. His excellent upbringing was obvious from the 1st day I met him.

Let's keep in mind, I have not seen an official announcement that he would not take the field in the Bowl game - if it out there I missed it.

If he is really needed and is able, I have no doubt he will step up.

It was posted Dec 27 probably before he declared for the NFL and he didn't specifically say he wasn't playing in his announcement. But I would go with Matt Park and assume he isn't playing

I don’t blame them for not wanting to play on that field. Warm weather bowl and it could’ve been different

Yea also believe he had an injured ankle so I don’t blame him one bit. Field conditions were atrocious.

everyone has been assuming it was an opt out. and its a tarnish if that is the case. so why wouldnt they be screaming medical to avoid that obvious odd tarnish? not 1 mention of an injury in any article? or on this thread?

He was hurt at the end of the season and missed a decent amount of time. The question was whether he would be healthy for the bowl game. No doubt he wanted to play.

He was still in a walking boot a few days ago.
