MLB 2022 Lockout

If they care about winning like they say, sure. This is beyond multi-generational wealth either way. But they all play for the Bank of Boras.
Yes, it is the fault of the players, that billionaire owners, who are sitting on assets worth a minimum of $1.2 billion, artificially suppress the labor market.

Players pass up multigenerational wealth and chances to win all the time to get the next biggest contract. Sometimes they can end up like David Wright, life can come at you in a hurry.

I have no love for ownership but I don't feel bad for the players either.

The players seem to be.

I'm a season ticket holder and it's a massive waste of investment for both groups.
It is a partnership. Things are currently tilted significantly in the owners' favor. I am glad the players are taking a stand. I don't need them to bend over for billionaires just because I will miss baseball.

Further, as this has been driven by the owners, it's incumbent on the owners to clarify why it is needed to change the agreement.

They've failed to make a compelling case. Or any case, really.

I am pro sport, not really players or owners.. But if you are gonna have a fair sport where all 30+ teams can win then you need to have control of payroll and that limits salary..

players want unlimited salary but they also claim to want to be able to win.. which is it..

Baseball has been the most competitively balanced sport since before the “competing balance” tax was initiated. See the article posted above.

then they should have a salary cap of 50 million because that's all oakland and Tbay will spend. (if you go by the assumption that payroll determines competitiveness).

the "poor" teams already receive way more in revenue sharing from the rich teams than they spend. its just welfare for them. fine and dandy..they can have their welfare. but then don't whine when the other teams want to spend more.

There is some irony to the fact that when insanely rich owners get to set up their own system, they basically set up socialism.

Sure sounds like the biggest remaining problem is the CBT.

The players want significant increases to the limits owners can pay south out penalty.

A handful of owners are adamantly against this. Pretty much same ones that were against Steve Cohen purchasing the Mets.

This could go on for a long time. Hope these clowns give in soon. And if they do, I hope Cohen goes nuts spending money to rub it in their face.

If you own a team.. it should be because you want to win. If you can’t produce a winning team by drafting and developing them (Oakland / Tampa) then you should try to buy them. If you can’t draft / develop/ or afford to buy them.. then you should not own a team .. sell it and cash in the billions in equity…

If you are unwilling or unable to do ANY of the aforementioned… then sit down , shut up , let the guys who want to spend, spend .. and take your revenue sharing and local tv money ..

I'm not a fan of banning the shift. I would rather see players/teams adjust. I am fully on-board with bigger bases and a pitch clock.
The bigger bases would give fielders more room to turn double plays and also make it so runners don't slide off as easily when they slide - is that the logic? I'm ok with that.

Definitely agree with the pitch clock and agree with you about the shift, I realize not everyone can be Ted Wiliams, but learning to hit them where the fielders aren't is a skill and part of defensive strategy.

The bigger bases are to encourage base running.
