No the refs were bad at calling fouls on SU that we didn’t commit. Which gave an 80% FT team plenty to shoot. It's a close call, but not shooting any more free throws than we actually did might have saved us.
Such a basic comment but tells the whole story. If you have to take your senior leader off the floor in crunch time, I don't think you have a senior leader.
Same issues as last year’s team and teams of the last few years were on display tonight. I get that the refs were bad but to fully blame them for only beating Monmouth by 5 points is ridiculous.I've never been this mad after a win before.
The games in LV will be interesting. I don’t think many of us expect the Cuse to come away with a victory in either of the first 2 games. I don’t think Monmouth was that good. I think we were that bad. There were 2 or 3 times in the game I thought we would blow them out but we just could not play consistently well for even 5-6 minutes in a row. Let’s hope the team forgets tonight’s game and heads to Vegas with confidence.
Red needs to control his emotions there because it was a massive swing while on a 9-0 run. Really amateur stuff there. And that whole foul on Sadiq and Tech on Red was garbage. Sadiq got to the loose ball first and touched it forward and then the collision happens and he gets the foul?!? Red should have Ben livid! Just BS!! That wasn’t a 4 point swing.
And it hurt further by fouling out Sadiq in some BS foulsNo the refs were bad at calling fouls on SU that we didn’t commit. Which gave an 80% FT team plenty to shoot.
Yes but he was absolutely correct. He needs to deal with it better though. A different coach like JB probably doesn’t get a T.Red needs to control his emotions there because it was a massive swing while on a 9-0 run. Really amateur stuff there.
Add Will Kyle to that and we have a deal, JJ looks like he learned his new form from KyleCan we force JJ to shoot free throws granny style?
I would love to know why Autry decided to go with Zephir at the end. Why he went with the player who had contributed nothing during the game for the important closing possessions is beyond me. Zephir had a foul and then missed two free throws. Those were his only stats tonight.
I’ve had a few beers. I’m pretty sure that if I walked my beagle—beer in hand—to the local YMCA, that I wouldn’t airball a free throw in the rain. I’m kinda fat, I’m 37, and I never played competitive basketball outside of pickup games.Add Will Kyle to that and we have a deal, JJ looks like he learned his new form from Kyle
Extremely well saidFirst, monmouth made the shots all game that Drexel made in the first half. And they had a player (Ray) go 9/9. They played better than us and played hard. We just have better players. Defense wasnt great, but the offense was atrocious. We just played lazy. Freeman was our best player, but he played too soft again.
First half back-to-back Phantom fouls on white and kingz where neither one even touched the Monmouth player was ridiculous. Then back to back on Freeman and the tie up from Kyle that was called a foul. These were not questionable fouls, these were absolute phantom fouls. Maybe the worst ref game I’ve ever seen in my life. But it should not have mattered.
We had zero rhythm on offense the whole game.
I could shoot 100 free throws tonight after a few drinks and never miss the rim. JJ cannot be starting or playing at crunch time until he proves you can count on him.
In a short sequence in the second half, we had arguably our two best shooters go one for six at the line. Monmouth stepped up to the line and calmly sank free throws all game long, while it looked like we never shot a free throw in our life.
Shame on me, I thought we turned the corner as a team, but this performance tonight was pathetic.
This team is not even remotely close to the 2003 teamBad games happen, no need to hit the panic button just yet.
The 2003 championship team beat a 5-5 Canisius team by only 8 pts in December that season. That Canisius team finished the year with an 11-17 record.
I'm swinging by the Melo Center tomorrow to drop off my signed copy of "Fifteen Feet for Free" by Jim Lee.I watched this on repeat as a kid. Boeheim has a whole section on free throws. Bust out the VCRs and whole team watches it.
