Monmouth Postgame

This CANT keep happening. It just can’t. There are exactly 0 high school students that have ever seen us play in the NCAA tournament.
Yup. Louisville realized they were going to be heading down a similar path and fired their HC and went out and got a great one in Kelsey, who was from outside their program as well. Syracuse can do so much better and we haven’t been Syracuse in years, plain and simple. And imo that all starts with the HC.

And that whole foul on Sadiq and Tech on Red was garbage. Sadiq got to the loose ball first and touched it forward and then the collision happens and he gets the foul?!? Red should have been livid! Just BS!! That was a 4 point swing.

The games in LV will be interesting. I don’t think many of us expect the Cuse to come away with a victory in either of the first 2 games. I don’t think Monmouth was that good. I think we were that bad. There were 2 or 3 times in the game I thought we would blow them out but we just could not play consistently well for even 5-6 minutes in a row. Let’s hope the team forgets tonight’s game and heads to Vegas with confidence.

No, we were close to blowing this game out. We were the better team.
George should have taken over, but the personalities haven't sorted themselves out on this team yet.

JJ just failed the audition. You can use him 20 minutes to help bring the ball up, run the break and attack the rim. But he can't play more than that anymore.

I like that Donnie's good on the line. Donnie and George have to be our closers.

Kingz is a closer, too. He makes plays, even if he took an early 3 tonight down the stretch. He made a lot of good plays, and plays great defense,

I think Sadiq will hopefully learn from this. He plays with emotion, but he can't develop a reputation as a guy who gets called for dumb / cheap fouls all the time.

Red needs to control his emotions there because it was a massive swing while on a 9-0 run. Really amateur stuff there.

I would love to know why Autry decided to go with Zephir at the end. Why he went with the player who had contributed nothing during the game for the important closing possessions is beyond me. Zephir had a foul and then missed two free throws. Those were his only stats tonight.

Back from the game. Outside of the stretch from like 14min to 8min 2nd half, rough game.

Honestly that ending was very disheartening. Shades of last year. Very concerning leading up to Houston.

Officiating was absolutely horrendous too.

I watched not one, but two of the worst FTs I’ve ever seen tonight. Not an exaggeration.

Yes but he was absolutely correct. He needs to deal with it better though. A different coach like JB probably doesn’t get a T.

First, monmouth made the shots all game that Drexel made in the first half. And they had a player (Ray) go 9/9. They played better than us and played hard. We just have better players. Defense wasnt great, but the offense was atrocious. We just played lazy. Freeman was our best player, but he played too soft again.

First half back-to-back Phantom fouls on white and kingz where neither one even touched the Monmouth player was ridiculous. Then back to back on Freeman and the tie up from Kyle that was called a foul. These were not questionable fouls, these were absolute phantom fouls. Maybe the worst ref game I’ve ever seen in my life. But it should not have mattered.

We had zero rhythm on offense the whole game.

I could shoot 100 free throws tonight after a few drinks and never miss the rim. JJ cannot be starting or playing at crunch time until he proves you can count on him.

In a short sequence in the second half, we had arguably our two best shooters go one for six at the line. Monmouth stepped up to the line and calmly sank free throws all game long, while it looked like we never shot a free throw in our life.

Shame on me, I thought we turned the corner as a team, but this performance tonight was pathetic.

Did he have BZ in over Kiyan on defense? That would make sense, Kiyan was hurting and isn't as strong. I'd have to rewatch the inbounds that went to BZ - guy was a poor (61%) foul shooter, but has to hit one.

I need a rewatch but don't want too either. I didn't get the feeling that we were serious about the end game up double digits. I saw Donnie and George multiple times just chatting like that foul was bad, this sucks. We just looked disinterested and wanted to be off the court. Wasn't even the other team. It was just the refs and the deadzone that was the Dome.

Problem is they haven't earned that right yet to pretend like we deserve anything.

Add Will Kyle to that and we have a deal, JJ looks like he learned his new form from Kyle
I’ve had a few beers. I’m pretty sure that if I walked my beagle—beer in hand—to the local YMCA, that I wouldn’t airball a free throw in the rain. I’m kinda fat, I’m 37, and I never played competitive basketball outside of pickup games.

I did once hit a reverse layup in a pickup game. It means more to me than my varsity letter for cheerleading.
