NBA 2018-2019

Jimmy Butler to Philly for Saric and Covington and a 2nd rounder.

Wow.
was listening to an interview with the wolve's play by play guy and he said the problem was that both townes & wiggins were more physically talented than butler, but they didn't work nearly as hard so that (a) made jimmy the better player and (b) frustrated the hell out of him.

seems to me that dynamic could very well repeat itself in philly, with simmons & embid

I think Philly did really well.
Minnesota traded a dollar bill for a pair of quarters.

I think there’s like a 30-40% chance this makes Philly worse. In the very least I think the team is incomplete. Maybe the talent will overcome it, but their spacing is going to be absolutely horrific if they don’t make additional moves.

This trio is way more talented but I can’t help but be reminded of the offseason where the Pistons added Josh Smith to Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond and everyone was hyping them up a ton and then the games started, it was an epic mess spacing wise, and they were garbage.

Philly won’t be garbage or anything but I don’t think this pushes them ahead of Boston, Toronto, or Milwaukee. And Butler’s contract is going to be gross if they re-sign him.

Maybe this sets the stage for them to ship Simmons out.

Carmelo may not be long for Houston.
Not listed in the box score—not even a DNP/Coaches Decision. Officially listed as out with an illness, but MCW was sick and listed as such.

CA and Houston ownership are ‘discussing his role for the rest of the season’ but they say they’re not letting him go. But he’s 111th in personal defense and team points per 100 are way minus with him on the floor, and plus without.

Carmelo Anthony, Rockets Reportedly Discussing Star's Role, Future with Team

Not sure what he can do now. Who with a plus/minus and reputation like that, where is a better situation? And yet I can’t see him retiring. Too much pride/ego. I just hate seeing him continuing to tarnish his legacy, which was always already polarizing among non-SU fans.

Father Time has caught up with him. He doesn’t do anything else when he isn’t making shots. His quickness and lift is pretty much gone. It happens. He’ll be a HOF for sure but he’s a liability on the court now, obviously.

That dollar bill kinda forced their hand though

Didn’t someone offer four first rounders a few weeks ago?

They seemed caught in between trying to get the best overall return, and trying to get an immediate return, and quick trade to salvage this season.

That 5 game losing streak made them panic.

Yeah I think Thibs was short sided in what he got back. San Antonio even got a lottery protected first round pick with an all-star for Kawhi who was just as bad as Butler in forcing a trade.
This return was terrible.
They in essence traded Lauri Markahan for Saric and Covington.
Thibs needs a Real GM like the Clippers did to Doc.

Coach/GM combos are almost always horrible ideas. Coach’s only care about long term things if they 100% know they will be there. Why would Thibs really care about beyond this year right now? He’s the coach and staring a mess of the season in the face, so he needed to get someone that could contribute now.

Thibs’ fate should be tied to the development of KAT, Wiggins.
The problem is he traded a top 7 pick for Butler. I honestly was never really in love with Butler as I think his D was strength early on but as his offense developed his D wasn’t the same all-NBA D level.
Thibs should be realizing first he isn’t beating GS this year so it’s pointless to make trade now returns.
Second, with LeBron in LA and Denver pretty much playoff locks the West is going to lose atleast 2 playoff teams from last year and he was the 8 seed last year.
Minnesota and San Antonio are the clear favorites IMO to fall out maybe OKC, could but Schruder is great Westbrook insurance, Portland could as well but they have a great HCA and New Orleans could but they have Davis.
Thibs has blown what should have been an up and coming team to create the TimberBulls and he ruined it.

Lakers should win at least 5 of their next 7 going into that Jazz matchup IMO.

Wolves, Kings, Hawks, Blazers, Magic, Heat, Cavs

Wolves - check. Kings - check.

Tyson Chandler is helping! Held Sacramento to 86! Chandler with 12 boards.

Lonzo is sucking. Free Josh Hart!

Plus... a guy known for playing his starters too many minutes and habitually failing to develop a bench probably isn't a guy with the right mindset for being a GM.

Hits their depth a bit and it sure seems like everywhere Jimmy goes, there are locker room issues (not saying it's due to him, but at some point it's odd).

Maybe he can sign with GSW? Lakers? I honestly don't know. I thought he'd be fine on Houston and he's definitely not the key issue, but this just stinks for him.

I honestly thought his offense would age well and it's just fallen off a cliff.

His legacy is fine. He's a HoFer and an all-time scorer. That's pretty good.

Oh man, I never even thought about it, but yeah, Melo absolutely could be one of the retread guys LeBron just has to have on his team.

Thibs needs to go, imo. He's just too short-sighted and I don't think you can walk him back to being just a coach, imo.

BTW, I keep seeing people saying SAS are a candidate to drop from the playoffs - they have two All NBA guys and the best head coach in the NBA. They should be fine barring any more injuries. They just got Derrick White back and he tore it up. JMHO.

So how is this not a T? Dude hung on the rim wellllllll after he protected himself from traffic

Freaking reminded me of Chappell’s Prince “Game blouses” dunk ..

Game: Blouses

DIdn't think about it either, but now that it's been brought up; that seems like it needs to happen

LeBron’s late game FT shooting...yikes. We got the offensive board and he got the tip dunk. But man, he’s missed a lot of them already.

Chandler is helping! Game saving block at the buzzer! Winning record.

Think he was just making sure there was nobody around to land on. The hanging on the rim technical is always one of my least favorites, right up there with the slapping the glass after dunking technical.

Edit: yeah, he hung on forever after he was clearly safe to let go. Lol. Think he was contemplating those missed FT’s. They’d never T up LeBron or any star for that. In college though? Different story.

Everything he brings to the table on offense is gone from the game though. All they want you to do is run around real fast, drive to the basket, and shoot 3’s.

Celtics need a backup PF who can score.
Only have Morris on the second team who can score in the front court.
