NBA 2018-2019

The Magic request is bananas.

Kawhi’s main advisor is his uncle Dennis who is a die hard Lakers fan and loves Magic. Supposedly Magic has been in touch with him quite a bit. Sounds like Magic isn’t allowed at the meeting though.

Magic ran showtime, and Pelinka was Jimmy King’s backup.

In “Showtime”, NBA terms he’s basically Mike McGee.

And after the Kobe Joker meeting made up story and AD salary cap screwup that cost us more assets, and now Kawhi supposedly wants to meet with Magic(who got us LeBron)...I kinda wish Magic was the GM and Rob was the one that weirdly quit. Magic’s got basketball and Laker chops. Who the hell is Rob Pelinka?

As a Laker fan, I want to kick a lot of “Laker fans” in the nuts.

My favorite team of all time was led by Van Exel and Eddie Jones.
I liked Eddie. They got who for what there?
Right around Kobe time...

Glen Rice on his last legs and a past his prime below average JR Reid for a young all star Eddie Jones and an in his prime above average Elden Campbell.

Btw. If that is off the top of your memory, bravo. If not, thanks for looking.

Lol. Definitely top of memory. Don’t ask me what deals the Lakers have made in the last 15 years. But in my childhood, every trade was major, especially when it involved one of my favorites.

Vlade for Kobe. Who else was included? You're on the clock.

Lol, I’m pretty sure it was just Vlade. Amazing trade. Jerry West loved Kobe.

My dad is a Sixers fan and was saying at the time the Sixers should just take Kobe at #1(they took Iverson). He still talks about it. “Iverson was great but you can’t build a team around him. We could’ve built a team around Kobe! 6’6, not 6’0! I was the only one saying it!”

And he was a Philly guy. Ouch.

Darren Collison is retiring. Weakens PG options.

Crazy move on his part to go do Jehovahs Witness work. His earnings were $43m so far. Could've stuck it out 1 more year and potentially raised that 20-25% and then went on his journey.

They've got a coach that players like / relate to who has won a championship, they have a deep pockets owner, and it's still in LA.

Perception of the team has changed -- players view it as a place they can win, not purgatory anymore. And frankly, they've been better than the Lakers for several years.

They’ve been better but that’s a bit irrelevant now because Lakers have LeBron, AD and if Kawhi joins they’ll be the head and shoulders favorite to win it all and Clippers won’t be if Kawhi joins. Players probably like Doc more than Vogel but I don’t think it’s like players hate Vogel and don’t want to play for him.

Also, as far as ownership/FO goes I wouldn’t underestimate the weight of Lakers taking care of Kobe in that last contract when they knew he was declining versus Balmer courting Blake with a fake jersey retirement ceremony, being a main Clippers legend and then turning around and shipping him out to Detroit. Blake brought Clippers back to relevancy and was treated like that so who do you think players trust more?

Like I’ve been saying, no idea if Kawhi actually joins the Lakers but if you cut out the media noise and speculation I think Lakers are most appealing situation and Kawhi has more reason to be attracted to the Lakers than people want to admit.

Woj should just put a Clippers jersey on with these tweets.
So it’s obvious he is biased. Which is okay but he is.

The conspiracy that Balmer gave Woj a bag to hype up the Clippers this offseason looks more real by the day.

So the biggest detractor of Kawhi joining the Lakers is he wants his own team and to be the man but now all of a sudden he’s drawn to joining Durant with the Clippers? Either he cares about being the man on his own team or he doesn’t. And if he doesn’t care, how does joining Durant coming off an Achilles injury in a year look more appealing than joining LeBron and AD?

I don't recall anyone ever disputing that the LA Lakers were, are, or haven't always been a destination locale.

You expressed surprise that players don't view the Clippers the same way they used to when Donald Sterling owned the team. I'm just pointing out that they've become a viable free agency destination, mostly due to also being in LA, but also because they've been winning, Doc is universally regarded as a player's coach, etc. But I certainly do not contest that the Lakers have a far richer history.

99.9% convinced that Kawhi isn't going to the Lakers. He's an alpha, he probably doesn't want to be in LeBron's shadow -- he's a multi-time / multi-team champion who has shown that he can carry a team. He's far more likely to go to a good team and take them to the next level than he is trying to shackle his wagon to a super team. It makes a lot more sense for a player like AD [who's never won one] to make that step.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
