NBA playoffs: greatest show on Earth

Well I've said it numerous times over the past three or four months that I thought the Rockets were the best team this year. That first half definitely doesn't change my mind.

Stopped in for an NBA discussion, my bad, I didn't realize the animus was this toxic. If you dropped in from outer space and read this thread since the Cavs' game, you would never now the old guy had a pretty, pretty good game.

BTW, while we're quoting former Nazareth College point guard and Rochester McQuaid Jesuit head coach Jeffrey Van Gundy, may I drop in this nugget from Friday night.

Back to kvetching, whining, pissing and moaning, hot takin', as you were.

So you post something where he's right?

Westbrook takes 43 shots in a game and they try to claim they have a system Melo doesnt fit?

Garbage. The last half of his career was absolutely wasted. Should’ve stayed in denver.

Syracusefan.com grand pastime - griping about LeBron.

Melo has brought a lot of this on himself, but can't deny the fact that he maximized his earnings. With that said, and to your point, there is a reason that Dipo became an all nba player *after* he left playing with Russ.

Russ may be the most exciting and entertaining singular player in the nba, but he's going to marginalize any player that is either a star or really versatile.

OKC needs to surround Russ with three 3/D guys + Adams. Guys that are fine getting looks off of the black hole that Russ is.

Russ used to be a 90/10 guy in terms of what he brings to the table versus what he takes away from it. I'd argue that number is closer to 75/25 at this point, with the way the nba is trending.

The perfect example was him getting embarrassed by Rubio, claiming he was going to shut him down and then only caring about Rubio and not playing good team defense, ignoring the system.

Back to Melo - he needs to be careful about his choices here if he wants to prolong his career. There just aren't a ton of teams where his type of play is going to be welcomed and fit. I don't think he's washed, though. I think he still has something to give.

Portland would fit Melo like a glove and he’d be able to resurrect the end of his career there, but he probably won’t, because of OKC $$$.

He could’ve been the 3rd member of the Heat with Lebron and Wade but he chose not to. He then forced himself to NY, then OKC. All poor decisions in retrospect. I don’t think staying in Denver was the answer, but nothing he’s decided on after has worked out. (Putting it mildly)

Depends whether he cares about his money or legacy at this point. This player option battle that’s coming will ruin his legacy imo. Russ is not who he needs to be playing with.

If Lebron has two more seasons where he’s 1st team All-NBA, top 3 MVP candidate, averaging insane numbers and leading the Cavs or whomever else deep in the playoffs, I will strongly consider putting him ahead of MJ all-time.

He can never pass MJ for me but anybody who doesn’t put him top 3 alltime is just a hater.
It will be Jordan for me always and then Kareem and LeBron 2-3 in whatever order.

While the talent across the league is better now the physicality has been taken out of the league.
If 1987 Michael Jordan was playing today where he couldn’t be hand checked he would have averaged atleast 40 PPG. He averaged 35 and 37.1 in 86 and 87. He was crazy good with hand checking allowed.

Jordan was hammered and they were just cmon fouls. LeBron is bigger and faster than these guys now and he just gets fouled professionally and he gets those calls as flagrant.

I'm doing a playoff picks pool.

I went:
Raps in 6 (have a shot here)
Cavs in 5 (about that...)
Philly in 5
Celtics in 7 (good chance)

Rockets in 5
Jazz in 7
Warriors in 5
Portland in 6

So I totally whiffed on Portland, but I may be able nail like 6 of the 8 series, down to the # of games. Does anyone care? Probably not. But you've already read this, so too late now.

BUMP

Nailed 5 out of 8 series down to the exact game! I'm in second right now in the pool. Will continue to keep you all posted

I won’t. We’ve already seen their peaks.(I assume)

Others may see it differently though and factor in LeBron’s otherworldly longevity. I get that. For me, peak Mike was just a little better.

Really hard to compare across eras with guys who didn’t compete against each other and common opponents/scenarios though.

How can a guy ruin his legacy in his 16th season? Melo’s book is already written for the most part.

Like...Gary Payton contributed to a champion late in his career...and I don’t really care. His legacy was built when he was really good in Seattle. Melo is going to be a hall of famer and has had a great career. His twilight years are merely a footnote - whether it’s a positive or negative one remains to be seen but this year was not great obviously.

Melo leading the Knicks to 54 wins might’ve been harder and more impressive than superteaming up with LeBron and Wade to a couple titles.

Heard a stat on the radio this morning. This Cavs supporting cast is so rough and what LBJ has to do night in/out is unreal. The stat was the following: The past IND series that just concluded was the first time ever for LBJ in CLE that no teammate scored over 19pts in any game.

Man just when his social media dramatics and Arthur memes were starting to make me lose some respect for Lebron he just puts in that cheat code.
