NBA Thread 2019-20 Season

Harden, Blake, Kyrie, AD, Beal, Oladipo, Towns, Russell, Simmons, Tatum, Luka all fit in your parameters. That's essentially half of the all star and all nba teams.

Harden won an MVP so I forgot him.
Blake, Kyrie, Beal, Towns solid players but not guys who are worth tanking an entire season for.
Oladipo, Russell, Tatum for sure not worth tanking for.
Simmons and Luka could develop into great players but not yet.

I am tanking for TIm Duncan, LeBron James, Kevin Durant talents.

Nobody on that list above except Harden and Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid have proven to be worthy of tanking an entire season for before it begins.

Tanking is an insult for fans who pay money. If you are tanking it needs to be for a franchise transcendent talent.

Intelligent fans understand and embrace the tank at this point. It's a little sketchier now with the lottery odds changed. Previously there was no incentive whatsoever to finish anywhere between the 5th-15th worst record. Just getting stuck in the middle on the treadmill with about a 30% shot of getting a high-end rotation piece.

I understand it. I just wouldn’t spend my money and go to games if I knew my team was tanking to start the year.

If it’s January and you are 20 games under .500 of course I want to lose at that point.
It’s just too early for the Knicks to want to actively tank a season unless you saw a LeBron/Anthony Davis/Durant like talent.

That is my point. Wanting to tank at the beginning of the year is just not smart. It’s fraud from the team.

Ehhhhh... I don't know if I'd give a lot of credit to fans for being intelligent on that. I give credit to organizations for spinning losing as a productive exercise to their fanbase.

I don't really think it's spin. The results at this point are pretty obvious to see for the teams across all leagues that went all in.

We should be tanking - Gibson, Middleton, and even Morris should be getting no minutes. I think Trier played more last night than he did all pre-season. When Robinson comes back he better get more minutes than Portis.
I want that given I drafted Robinson quite early in fantasy. Hope his injury isn’t too serious. He’s pretty impressive.

It has worked for Philadelphia.
It hasn’t worked for Phoenix.
If you want to say Golden State in 2010 for Harrison Barnes I wouldn’t call that a win but I did acknowledge it.
Tanking hasn’t helped the top West teams or Milwaukee:

It's completely spin. The certainty is the losing. The uncertainty is the future payoff.

I wouldn't call what Phoenix has done tanking at all. That is pure incompetence. That is what you call having 2 top 8 picks and coming away with Bender and Chriss. Taking Josh Jackson at 4. Significant difference.

The rotations last night were puzzling to say the least. I think they had a lineup of Bjelica, Joseph, Ariza, Dedmond and Holmes out there for a bit. This isn't hockey...

I never understood his rotations and substitutions with the Lakers. He’d frequently have weird combinations out there, take guys out too soon and too often, leave guys out too long, etc. Our best players would be playing 28 mpg or something. It never made sense to me.

line of the night has to be kyrie 50, 8 and 7 with 0 turnovers

Joerger had a habit of keeping in the vets too long and doing some wonky rotations but Walton, albeit a small sample size, was just terrible with the leash he gave Ariza.

I’m thinking a young, spry Ariza used to lock Luke up in practice and Luke thinks he’s still that guy.

RJ to me is the frontrunner for rookie of the year

I think if Zion plays like 50-55 he will win it. Otherwise, you could be right. Barrett will have a ton of stats.
The East is wide open after Philly and Milwaukee no team should tank this year:
Who is the top prospect? That kid in Australia and LaMelo Ball?
No thanks for either of them.
The NBA draft is a pure gamble nowadays maybe every 5 years there are one of these prospects worth tanking for.
Since Durant who is the best player drafted in the top 3 of a draft?
Is it Joel Embiid or Derrick Rose?

Anthony Davis is pretty good. Towns and Blake as well. James Harden

Tanking for who? The next draft class has no stars.

I think its too early to say that; 12 months ago was Zion a star? ( I grant this maybe isnt the best week to make that argument, but you get my point)

I acknowledged I forget Davis right away and Harden was a guy I missed I forgot he went 3rd thought it was a pick or two later.
Towns and Blake are solid from what I said but they aren’t tank an entire season for IMO.

Yeah the tanking thing is kind of a lost cause now anyway with the flattened lottery odds.

I'd be all for tanking if it meant the Knicks had a rookie Towns next year though.

Looks like Suns fans were only allowed one night of joy and optimism...

Gotta give the NBA people on this board credit almost everybody had Luka as the best player in that draft and Phoenix passed him for Ayton.
Now Sacramento actually had a reason to pass on him since Luka wanted no part of Sacramento and would have stayed in Europe or used that as leverage.
Phoenix were the ones that messed up.

Doncic looks like a star.

Not the best first half but here’s my positive takeaways for the Bucks first half tonight:

I can totally understand why Ayton was the pick for Phoenix at that time, but yeah, I thought Doncic was the dude.
