NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

You get the stars and worry about everything else later.

MIL has to go all in on Giannis and getting him to re-sign. The contingency plans for life without Giannis are so off the level of having him that it doesn't matter if you're filling out this roster with Jackie Moon. BTW, remember all these same concerns with the Lakers?

Kudos to Edens and Lasry on this and going all in. This team is better than the Nets, Cs, Heat, etc.
If Giannis can’t not resign now. If he doesn’t he has been dishonest and I don’t think he has.

I do think if Durant is healthy the Nets are still in their league.
Boston and Miami are way behind Milwaukee and Brooklyn now.

If Giannis signs with Milwaukee that Holiday trade is a steal.
I think they overpaid for Bogdanoivch.

He is a good player but DiVincenzio really improved and seemed like a glue bench player for the Bucks.

The Pelicans gambled Giannis would leave and appear to have miscalculated.

The Covington trade is actually a good trade for Houston.
They need to recover some draft picks and got 2 for a player they traded Capella for.
In what world did the Pelicans miscalculate? They got 3 1sts, 2 pick swaps. A player in Bledsoe that is a A- version of Holiday to be a 3rd or 4th option with a reasonable contract that will turn into an asset next year. Not sure if they keep Hill around as a calming veteran presence or ship him off at the deadline for whatever they can get. That was an unbelievably good deal for them.

Pelicans did nicely but if Giannis doesn’t leave the pick swaps won’t be used and the 3 first round picks will all be in the 20’s.

Griffin did well but he had to make the deal thinking there is a chance Giannis could leave Milwaukee.

Those picks values depend on that.

Your team did well. Boston offered 14, 26, and 2022 first with a salary so the fact this draft sucks probably made that deal less attractive.

Meanwhile, in other NBA news ... pulling hard for this kid from the city of Rochester. Great story.

He's not a dummy, pretty certain that he knew that giving Holiday to the Bucks increased the chances of Giannis staying. Do you think the Pelicans are going to use all of the Bucks and Lakers picks to select players with? I certainly don't. They are stashed away to be used as ammo when they start making win now moves in 2 years. They are just loading up for when it matters. They aren't trying to beat the Lakers and Clippers this year or next.

DiVincenzo is a good young prospect? He can’t really shoot. I think it got the Bucks out from under a likely 1st rd bust pick. He’s a role player at best if he sticks.

You are right that Sac didn’t want to pay him (and Buddy). I just can’t believe that’s the best they could do.

Ah, restricted FA, makes more sense. Still bad by Kings.

Yes, Donte is arguably a starting caliber SG already and still has room to grow. Great defensive player and is basically meh at everything offensively right now but the analytics community would argue Donte is better than Bogdanovic already.

I think of the the 3 picks the first is tomorrow for the 24th which I am sure they wanted to try and trade up with and the last most likely will be pretty far out into the future maybe even 2026 or something. I can't imagine Griffin wagered 100% that Giannis would not be coming back. He's always been a lean to sign back. Sure that would be a hell of a bonus but probably looked as if he would resign. You just never know how good or bad this trade will work out, never understand the rush to judgement on either side but makes for good debate. No disputing that is a serious hall for Holiday though

Interested to see if the Pels trade Hill or Bledsoe as well. They have a ton of 1st rounders either way and most likely will be used to move up or future trades as you said. Just building the war chest and Griffin is under ZERO pressure to win now and I mean zero. He's basically running the entire organization at this point.

Would still like to see a 5 that can shoot and complement Zion?

Questions for Bucks fans? Wouldn't they have been better off to just pay Brogdon a year ago?

Everyone is losing their minds in the Kings Facebook groups over this move. I think everyone got their hopes up after seeing what the Bucks gave for Holiday. I think these moves signal that Giannis is definitely staying and any draft picks Kings fans were hoping for wouldn't be nearly as valuable. Not thrilled since Bogdan was one of my favorites and much more likable than Buddy but my guess is he's getting shipped out too. I'm excited to see what he does on a playoff team as his play always improved when the games were meaningful.

I'm all for it. He was smart and some of those Lakers picks/swaps aren't for another 4 and 5 years when Lebron won't be around. I'm interested in seeing it all unfold. Going to have to give Ingram a near-max deal so glad they won't have to give Holiday one after next year as well. That would have created a disaster with Hart and Lonzo up after next year as well.

Bledsoe per 36 - 19.9ppg, 6.2rpg, 7.2 apg .475 fg%, .344 3pt
Holiday per 36 - 19.8ppg, 5.0rg, 6.9apg, .455 fg%, .353 3pt.

Both are very high level defenders as well so yeah I'll take that with all the picks.

I dunno, I think this would indicate that they're sticking with Buddy and he can quit pouting now and get it together.

I think if we had signed Brogdon instead of Bledsoe, it maybe saves us a 1st round pick in this trade if that. I'm not sure Indiana could get more by trading Brogdon now than we did when we traded him last offseason and I think we would have been looking to replace Brogdon just like we ultimately did with Bledsoe. Brogdon is a liability if you're asking him to defend PGs like we were with Bledsoe and will be with Holiday and I'm not sure he's better offensively than either of them either. His efficiency fell off a cliff once he didn't have Giannis, Middleton, and Bledsoe drawing attention away from him.

So Griffin did even better than I thought.

The seeds he planted grow when Giannis could be gone in 5 years.

Probably grabbing picks for another move that is coming since they gave theirs to OKC for Westbrook.
look at what the suns gave up for CPIII? OK City got REAL value for CPIII...while the rockets basically traded him to OKC as a negative asset..and had to take on extra years of Westbrook AND give up picks JUST to get paul off the books...that trade now looks HORRIFIC

Boston from Brooklyn got
3rd overall pick Jaylen Brown
1st overall pick turned into 3rd overall Jayson Tatum
8th overall pick traded for Kyrie.

New Orleans could potentially do better between LA and Milwaukee.

It really is a huge haul for the Pels if you look at it. Future stuff as well. Obviously, Griffin figured on Giannis signing the extension and wanted the pick this year to try and move up.

We can agree to disagree. The Kings had a coveted asset and shipped him for the poor man’s Alex Caruso.

Lol, Donte is significantly better than Caruso right now and is also 3 years younger. And Donte wasn't really a coveted asset to trade. He was a guy they could either sign, let walk for nothing, or let walk and get something and they chose to get something.

Just having some fun. They are basically the same player. One is younger, more upside.

Of course it does. No one anticipated that CP3 would stay healthy for a year and play like he was in his prime. His contract was the worst in the league heading into last year except for John Wall's. Morey obviously wouldn't have made that deal but nothing you can do when the owner makes it happen.

Milwaukee had top 10 protection on their 2022 pick they owed Cleveland.
It’s now an unprotected pick.

So Giannis better resign now.
They wouldn’t have high picks from 2022 til 2027.

Yeah, the Pelicans crushed it, and I was pro them keeping Holiday.

Even picks aside, there was basketball sense to the trade too. Holiday's the best player in the deal, so it makes sense why the Bucks wanted him, but the Pelicans snagged a solid starter in Bledsoe and legit backcourt depth in Hill. And who knows, maybe they flip those guys into something else too. Depending on how things shake out, probably looks good to have the Pelicans in the playoffs this season, I'd think.
