I really don’t get Edwards over Ball.
Edwards showed nothing in the games I watched in college to say he is the top pick of the draft.
Don’t get me wrong he was only 18 but the guy is a chucker and couldn’t carry an inferior roster.
Wiseman is a gamble but atleast looks like he can be a defensive rim protector at worst.
Ball seems like the obvious first pick in this draft.
Wouldn’t shock me if the Warriors took Haliburton at 2 if they are keeping the player.
That would drop one of the top 3 to Chicago.
I don't like Edwards personally but I get what scouts see. In a draft that's lacking in potential star power, Edwards has the body, athleticism, and shot creation ability to theoretically turn into a star. There's just so many red flags though. They sold him on Georgia saying they'd play him as a de facto PG like Crean did with Dwyane Wade and he was so bad at that that they had to take the role away from him during the season. Doesn't really try on defense. Didn't shoot the ball well. Took dumb shots (though to be fair, he pretty much had to with the teammates he was playing with). His high school team sucked. His AAU team sucked. His college team sucked. He showed up to his nationally televised pro-day out of shape. I have him #6 on my big board.
LaMelo I think is the #1 talent in the draft. If he can't become more committed to defense and he never develops his jumper, I think he'll put up numbers while being a net-negative player. But if he can fix one of the two (and some would argue he's already fixed his jumper), I think he can be really good.
Wiseman is #11 on my big board personally. I just don't put value in drafting big men in the top 5 if they don't project as offensive centerpieces. And in Wiseman's case, I'm not really sure how he projects since we didn't really get a chance to see him against college competition much less pro competition. I'm not really confident he can help a team in his first couple years in the league. I'd rather take Onyeka Okongwu who essentially does all the same stuff as Wiseman but proved it against good competition; but even Okongwu I wouldn't take top 5 (and apparently now has a foot injury that might cause him to slide).
For me, the top of the draft board is:
- LaMelo Ball
- Tyrese Haliburton
- Isaac Okoro
- Deni Avdija
- Killian Hayes
- Anthony Edwards
- Tyrell Terry
- Tyrese Maxey
- Onyeka Okongwu
- Devin Vassell
- James Wiseman
