NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

I really don’t get Edwards over Ball.

Edwards showed nothing in the games I watched in college to say he is the top pick of the draft.
Don’t get me wrong he was only 18 but the guy is a chucker and couldn’t carry an inferior roster.

Wiseman is a gamble but atleast looks like he can be a defensive rim protector at worst.

Ball seems like the obvious first pick in this draft.

Wouldn’t shock me if the Warriors took Haliburton at 2 if they are keeping the player.
That would drop one of the top 3 to Chicago.

I don't like Edwards personally but I get what scouts see. In a draft that's lacking in potential star power, Edwards has the body, athleticism, and shot creation ability to theoretically turn into a star. There's just so many red flags though. They sold him on Georgia saying they'd play him as a de facto PG like Crean did with Dwyane Wade and he was so bad at that that they had to take the role away from him during the season. Doesn't really try on defense. Didn't shoot the ball well. Took dumb shots (though to be fair, he pretty much had to with the teammates he was playing with). His high school team sucked. His AAU team sucked. His college team sucked. He showed up to his nationally televised pro-day out of shape. I have him #6 on my big board.

LaMelo I think is the #1 talent in the draft. If he can't become more committed to defense and he never develops his jumper, I think he'll put up numbers while being a net-negative player. But if he can fix one of the two (and some would argue he's already fixed his jumper), I think he can be really good.

Wiseman is #11 on my big board personally. I just don't put value in drafting big men in the top 5 if they don't project as offensive centerpieces. And in Wiseman's case, I'm not really sure how he projects since we didn't really get a chance to see him against college competition much less pro competition. I'm not really confident he can help a team in his first couple years in the league. I'd rather take Onyeka Okongwu who essentially does all the same stuff as Wiseman but proved it against good competition; but even Okongwu I wouldn't take top 5 (and apparently now has a foot injury that might cause him to slide).

For me, the top of the draft board is:
  1. LaMelo Ball
  2. Tyrese Haliburton
  3. Isaac Okoro
  4. Deni Avdija
  5. Killian Hayes
  6. Anthony Edwards
  7. Tyrell Terry
  8. Tyrese Maxey
  9. Onyeka Okongwu
  10. Devin Vassell
  11. James Wiseman

Knicks trade 38th pick to move from 27 to 23.

Wonder if this is step one in a two-step move.

If not, hoping we can get Terry at 23. It's basically house money with the pick we got from Morris.

So dumb. Why are we not moving up from 8 to 4 or 5. Give up our second first round pick. I want Tyrese Haliburton. If Lamelo is off the board but we should be moving up. What r we doing.

Seems like the general consensus is the Knicks made this trade to have more ammo to move up from #8 like you want.

Does that make sense?

If they do ultimately stay at #8 and #23, it makes sense IMO because #23 is right around the range where one of the good PG prospects will likely slide. They can theoretically get a guy like Devin Vassell to play on the wing at #8 (or Tyrese Haliburton if he slides though I don't think he will) and then a guy like Cole Anthony, Tyrell Terry, or Theo Maledon at 23.

Yeah it just seems a little strange to do the deal now; like maybe you get Hayes at 8, and you don't really need another guard at 23. But who really knows?

First, I think this draft is awful. I think that at least two players from 2021 and two players from 2022 would go in the top four over anyone in this draft if they were eligible today at the least (Cade, Green, Emoni, Chet Holmgren).

I think LaMelo will not be good. He's a head case, brings a whole slew of issues with him, can't shoot, defend or play without the ball.

He hasn't played in a truly structured system in three years.

I would be trying to trade out of any position in the lottery. If I had to take a flyer on any player it would be Wiseman early and maybe Terry late (as a solid role player).

Do you really think all it takes to move to 4 or 5 is a 2nd round pick?

Knicks still have a second round pick so trading it instead of potentially just selling it makes sense.
Knicks don’t need 4 rookies with Thibs as the coach.

That in lies the problem. I never wanted Thibs. Retread head coach. I wanted Jason Kidd Mark Jackson or Jeff Vangundy. Or had we just been little more patient we could have gotten Doc Rivers.

No we should have traded our 2nd first round pick number 27 originally. I dont want any of the guys we are being linked to if we stay at 8. Would prefer trade back and take Cole Anthony.

So I’m showing Edwards as -160 to be the first pick ... what you guys think of those odds ?

When the Knicks end up with Okoro and Terry be happy and don’t complain.

Just tell me what is your definition of a retread HC?

A once successful coach at their original job who each subsequent new job became less successful. What did Thibs do in Minnesota? We could have waited and possibly gotten Doc Rivers. Or here is a thought once Doc Rivers became available fire Thibs.

Dont want either. Especially at 8 Okoro William's Vassell. Are the ones we are mostly being linked to at 8.

JVG did worse in Houston than he did in New York.
Doc Rivers did worse in LA than he did in Boston.
Mark Jackson isn’t getting hired because of his Christianity religion scaring ownership groups.

Thibs is a great coach for a team ready to win.
He is a horrible fit for New York because he doesn’t develop young talent well. You don’t get the Knicks brand sucks within the league. Thibs is about the best the organization could get without hiring an assistant.

He's the guy everyone expects to be the #1 pick at this point, but it wasn't long ago that LaMelo was viewed as the #1.

Not really this isn't the draft to be moving up in.

There are 3 possible Generational talents if they hit. Wiseman only played in 3 games Edward's was on a bad Georgia team and Lamelo was overseas. So none based of their seasons are guaranteed.

None of these guys are generational talents.

Generational talent= Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, LeBron.

Players like Giannis, Steph weren’t seen as generational and became them.

Nobody in this draft is a generational talent pre-draft.

Odds are none reach all star level .. but if I had the top pick I’m taking the big guy because there is a tiny chance he becomes an incredible player given his size and mobility... the other two ... I see more of a chance they become solid players but less of a chance of stardom

I wouldn't associate the word generation with any of those players.

I'll put it like this. Either we trade up for Lamelo un likely or Haliburton more likely. Or we trade back for Cole Anthony. Those are the only guys I will be satisfied with realistically that we could get.
