NBA Thread 2021-22 Season

I get it's a dramatization and maybe West did fly off the handle at times though it appears that nobody will speak to it but I would be pissed if I were West if none of this behavior is even remotely factual. It's just ridiculous. I mean he's one of the greats of the NBA over the last 50 years. It is a bit ridiculous and feels disrespectful to someone who has spent a lifetime working in the NBA. There is a point where there has to be some type of factual basis and just can't create a character for more viewer interest in this type of show. I think the Pat Riley guy is terrible too

I thought I read some of his former players did confirm his practice and locker room behavior to be somewhat similar just that they went quite a bit over the top.

Yeah Booker leaving is the biggest news yesterday. Hopefully it was more precautionary as hamstrings can be really stubborn.

Yeah and danger zone as you don't want a team like the Pels getting confidence.
Huge win for the Pels as they now control homefield advantage. It would be a huge upset if they pulled it off.

I think you could make a reasonable argument that Brandon Ingram is the most underrated player in the NBA.

I agree here. If Zion gets healthy I'm finding the best deal I can get and building the team up with those assets. Zion I bet gets a couple more years if healthy and he turns into a nobody story of hype turned failure.

I've always been bullish on BI and would want him on my team any day, but sometimes he does disappear. CJ McCollum has definitely helped to make him a better player.

They definitely have options and that is certainly a possibility and understanding the injury concerns I expect the Pels to extend Zion this summer, sure stranger things have happened and there is definitely a disconnect between Zion and the franchise on how his injuries have been handled but you can't write off how good he was last year when healthy. One of the things that David Griffin did when he was first hired was take huge steps to improve the Pels medical and training team. Zion has chosen to not always listen to the staff but they are well respected. Doubling or the constant blitzing of BI or CJ will become next to impossible with Zion on the floor if he stays healthy. What did he average 27 and 8? He will have to play better defense under Willie Green though

Depending on where the lottery pick falls that they have from the Lakers they could possibly move that pick along with Devonte Graham who has not panned out for a couple more younger vets. Nance should be a great complement to Zion as well. Kira Lewis was playing better before his knee injury. They will most likely look for more shooting and a bigger guard that can defend or another wing who can play off the ball. There backcourt with Alvarado, CJ, and Lewis is pretty small.

The talk of trading Ingram was always irresponsible reporting by the media and a joke. The Pels now have Willie Green who clearly understands the modern day NBA player and has built a great culture. Ingram has stepped up his defense this year and works really hard at his game. Pels have options on the path forward but I think that path includes Zion. Huge risk for sure.

I don't expect them to actually beat Phoenix but if Booker is out for a few games who knows. Either way a huge step in the right direction for the Pelicans tough to imagine that people were calling for Grif to be replaced in December and it did look bleak but he, Langdon and Swin Cash have done a great job.

For sure. I don't disagree with any of this. The thing with Zion is that physics are likely going to take over soon. The injuries to date, despite being as young as he is are going to persist unless he can get his playing weight down closer to 250/245. He hasn't seemed committed enough to getting there. If they can rent out a couple great seasons that certainly is a good thing too. I tend to lean towards making out assets from him knowing he is most likely a ticking time bomb. Again I could be wrong on that too but I don't think the odds are in Zions favor if he doesn't make some massive changes.

I agree - I would deal him and get what I can and live with the results IF he gets healthy and IF he gets dedicated to fitness.

Hell I think 265 would be a great start. I would say even last year he was 20 pounds over that. He's a big guy for sure and the long term look ahead is a HUGE concern. They could let Zion play next year on his current contract and see where it goes. He would be a RFA after next year and they could match any offer I believe and that would put the responsibility on him to show up in shape and healthy. Hell put the weight requirements right in the freaking contract. He could take the qualifying offer as well after next season and then be FA in 2 years. Or you extend him with an Embid type rookie extension. Having made the playoffs and showing at least a pulse on the floor should help the Pelicans case.

I do agree Zion hasn't really committed to the off court choices that he would need to make to have a long term career in the NBA but he is only 21 and with a broken foot I think some weight gain for a guy like him was certainly not unexpected. Zion is never going to be slim good body though nor was Charles Barkley but he did lose a lot of weight early part of his career

But hey if they could get a great deal for him in June then you certainly have to look at it. I do think the Pels are only interested in having players, coaches etc who want to be there at this point. Probably why if you look at their roster they have drafted and acquired a roster with significant southern roots and a couple foreign players. A guy like Alavarado who is from NY has embraced the City and they have loved him back Dude was showing up at mardi gras parades on the regular.
