Looked up previous champs to see when was the last non P5 team to win it all (of course league have evolved). You have to go back to Marquette in 1977 to find the last winner. Before that 1966 Texas Western.
It would be amazing to see either of the teams playing to win it all.

The 2014 UConn team out of the AAC maybe? Conference had Louisville as well, so its arguable how mid it was.

Had forgot that Louisville also spent one year in the AAC (2014) as well.
