New AD: Mark Coyle from Boise

I don't know nothing from nothing about the AD candidates but after reading the syracuse.com article Buffalo's Danny White sounds like a great hire to me

timeframe fits.

july 1 start...

the fact that its been so quiet is a good thing, it means syvy can keep his trap shut and is making sure its the right guy/gal.

i for 1, cant wait. it will be a great harbinger of whats in store for SS.

Our next AD is coming from a D1 program, not bagging groceries at Wegmans. He is not giving his current employer two weeks notice and showing up on the Hill on July 1.

Danny White has youth, experience, blood lines and credentials for the job. Ironically, he was assistant AD at Northern Illinois where Frazier is the current AD. White also hired Felisha-Legette- Jack, former SU star, for the Buffalo womens basketball coaching job. I do wonder though with his father, Kevin, the AD at Duke and around 65 years old, if his son might be the heir apparent.
65 is the new 45.

Helps to hear them, so here are some clips.

Marty Scarano - New Hampshire

This is such a huge decision for all SU Athletic Programs that I wanted to see what the collective SUFans crew knew about potential ADs.

When I saw this picture I literally puked a little bit into my mouth. It was a gut reaction, literally. Gross.

Well, to each their own. I know a lot of websites are trying to generate hits, so I don't get worked up about it. It's a very slow news cycle, so what else are they going to run? I mean we are going to get about 5 new "Player X from the Bills prefers Rex to Marrone" from them. It is what it is. I think it's far off for someone who is reporting on SU sports to wonder why a top candidate (w/ fb experience and NY connections) wouldn't be contacted. I'd expect the same if SU hadn't talked to White, or some of the top people at Ohio St

It was framed as a negative. It was its own article and not a small footnote. I pressed Axe on it and he was snide and arrogant. Said the PS staff should be consulted on the hire.

The damage is to the perception of the program. Lots of people read that and think "another misstep" - when in fact, the media outlet has no real info to report.

He was not a good AD at all! He was far from a great man

Another brilliant take.

Between 1985 and 2004,

The football team went to 14 bowls in 20 seasons including the Sugar, Orange, and two Fiesta bowls, 5 ten + win seasons, three nine win seasons.

Basketball team won seven conference championships, three BET's, went to three national championship games and won one.

Lax team went to 19 straight final fours and won 8 times.

Hired Mac, P and Desko. Stood by JB early and through the sanctions.

Key player in the formation of the BE.

That's not good, that's great.

Sign me up for another run like that! :)

No idea how he is as a person. Guy liked to smoke cigs and scowl but to say he was not a good AD at all is probably the dumbest thing i've read on this board in a long time. I would argue he's one of the most influential people at SU ever. Thank the gods he was a classmate of Gavitt at Dartmouth and was respected by him.

no jake and we are nothing today-

he was way more than his most famous quote

If he had a fault, it was a failure to push for new facilities.

And I'm not sure if he was the only one at fault for that, but he has to take some of the blame.

I didn't get the comment at all. I don't know how Jake would translate in today's college football world (see OrangePa's comment in this thread about if he had access to the same $), but in his day, he helped build it all.

In my younger days, I could be a bit of a crybaby about decisions that were or weren't made, or how much good soldiering may have hurt us in a time where a champion needed to speak up about how we were falling behind (I still feel some of that). But to deny his impact on SU athletics is ludicrous. His fingerprints were everywhere during a hell of a run.

ultimately the buck stops with him, but that shouldve been brought to his attention by young underlings who were hip to what was going on around the marketplace.

to him a luxury facility was a building with 3 rooms...a bathroom, a weightroom and a room with dart boards on the walls, a 36" tube tv, a few pool, ping-pong and foos-tables, 1 couch for the 'stars', a bunch of bar stools for the rest and a big vent to clear out the smoke.

everyone can get in there and bond.

the whole explosion of the internet and video gaming, the flat screens, multiple couches etc etc, was not in his wheelhouse.

but, what was he going to do? we were rolling through the 90s and the Dome was still new and the shlit, so why the need to do anything? the NFL jets were borrowing sub-standard stuff at hofstra for crying out loud. he was ahead of the game it seemed.

but boy did it crash and burn pretty quick.

dont think anyone could foresee that.

I'm pretty sure the funding he gathered - and was prepared to use - was taken from him by the Administration.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. And the job someone does should really be judged on the net overall impact.

I have my nitpicks with Jake -- the lack of success in Olympic sports, notably women's sports. Some late tenure inertia and a failure to fully seize on the success of the football program in the 90s from a marketing perspective.

But Jake's net impact was hugely positive.

This isn't really a debate.

I have to think that the SU job is a big jump for a guy like White and might be irresistible - not that many P5 jobs around. The others might not want to accept the challenge.

I have a hard time seeing us hire a guy like Dickson who is subject of a very public campaign to oust him including a 10 60 banner at last year's homecoming.

If Marty Scarano from New Hampshire is truly a candidate, he would be a surprising choice. 13 years at Colgate a Pittsburgh native and a PED State graduate!

I am liking the idea of White better with each passing day.

Syracuse athletic director search: Bucknell AD John Hardt staying put after garnering interest from SU

"The Syracuse folks never contacted me directly," he told the paper. "I think their search firm was out there taking pulses on a lot of folks. I told them now is not the time for me to leave Bucknell."
So basically Nate Mink just read this thread and made up an article based on people said in this thread. Newsflash to the POS writers from the Standard do your own work.

Or...Hardt was a logical candidate because he was one last time the position was open? The anti-PS stuff on here is getting so tired.

I am never post on the anti-PS stuff but when we have that article come out right during this thread and all the names were out of this thread. Sorry that leads me to think the guy got the idea from this thread. I am not conspiracy theory person, but the story coming out when there was no speculation of the new hire being imminent and this thread being started makes it walk like duck and quack like a duck.
