Joey Spallina etched his place in the Long Island record books, becoming the region’s all-time leading scorer with his 501st career point in Mt. Sinai’s Suffolk Class C championship win over Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.). The top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2022 broke Nicky Galasso’s record on a goal with 2:37 left in the game.
The Syracuse-bound senior added six more points on a goal and five assists to finish with 507 career points in the Long Island Class C championship game, his lone goal pulling the Mustangs to within a score early in the fourth quarter. It was Spallina’s last high school game, as Mt. Sinai suffered a 12-7 loss to Manhasset (N.Y.).
