New DC ideas

I can't believe Chris Ash was even suggested. Would make me sick to see him linked to the job. He didn't even call plays at tOSU. Not interested in any way, shape, or form.

Would love Charlie Strong but don't think that's realistic.

Will need to pay the DC anywhere from $750K to $1.2MM to start and hoping CUSE can find that money for someone good.
Just FYI, Venables makes around $2.2 million a season for Clemson. The next highest paid DC salary I could find in the ACC is Harlon Barnett, FSU's DC, who was making 1.1 million. Even Bud Foster only makes 975K. Van Gorder of UL is another member of the 900K club, making 925K.

The next highest DC salary I could find is Dave Huxtable of NC State at 600K.

Al Golden. Let's start his college football head coach resurrection tour.

He has to want to be something more than a LB coach. Pasqualoni will coach until he's 90 so he's not getting promoted to DC with the Lions.

So what are some realistic names. DCs at G5 schools? Position coaches at P5 schools with great DCs? Other failed head coaches who are also in Dino's iphone contacts?

Van Gorder makes $925k?! That's actually incredible for someone of his track record. Routinely one of the worst DCs in the country. Wow.

EDIT: He's at Bowling Green now because he got fired last season (of course). I'm sure he's not making that kind of money there lol.

Bring back Pasqualoni. What a way to full circle things here. He's a solid D coordinator. He can come back to Syracuse and sleep on his couch again at Manley. Patricia is gonna be fired in Detroit inevitably.

Wasn't his wife from Syracuse?

This is a “needle in a haystack” exercise. Honestly, if you gave me 50 picks and told me the next DC was a name not on current staff, I don’t think many of us could land on the guy (or gal).

It’s going to be a coach that agrees with Dino’s defensive philosophy, which likely has not changed. It’s also a philosophy that the rest of CFB does not prefer currently.

I just hope the budget for a DC is higher than it has ever been. Especially because you have a head coach that specializes on the other side of the ball. So it is prudent that the next hire is not only a DC, but a “CEO” of the defense and has the experience upon arrival.

Sorry, that data was from 2018. Newest I could find.

All good! Regardless of what year it's from it's still crazy a school paid Van Gorder that kind of money haha

Was looking at guys with ACC experience and came across Nate Woody. He was only at GA Tech last year but was DC at App State prior. I didn’t follow GA Tech much last year to know how he did.

Who runs the University of Buffalo defense? Brian Boarland? Can't search it but don't think have a highly ranked defense? What style does he run?

Yes, she was a stalker who chased him from the grocery store to the Manley parking lot and demanded he take her to dinner.

I can relate. That kind of thing happens to me every week.

I'm pretty sure he'd still be single if this didn't happen.

(please don't Pasqualoni-attack me, this was all posted in good fun).

Find a DC from a meathead coaching staff and just worry about fixing the OL and recruiting better.
We aren't and shouldn't waste money on a former HC at DC. The scheme needs to be able to gameplan to the opponent and none of this cover 2 or pro crap.
Look at defensive coaches from Temple, Navy like programs where the talent isn't elite and defenses are solid.

Was thinking about this yesterday. I wonder how many college coaches hire coordinators that they have not interacted with/built prior relationships with in one way or another? Have to imagine this will be a familia hire and not someone out of the blue sending Dino their resume’.

Yup, I remember reading that story in the Post Standard as a teenager. I think she was a teacher at MPH. She "came up" as they say.

I think Dino will consider DeWayne Walker. No ties to the east coast, but ties to Dino as he did a very good job as defensive coordinator at UCLA while Babers was there. Walker was the head man at New Mexico State for a few seasons afterwards before returning to NFL as a defensive backs coach, first with the Jaguars and now the Browns.

If I remember correctly, Ward was initially outside the family when Babers hired him away from NDSU when he was at Bowling Green. I don't think Dino is above going outside at all.

P just got the dreaded “vote of confidence “ today from Patricia so he could become available. Lol.

Thanks for the info so WE NEED TO PAY to get a good DC.
