Next year - QB?

He just practiced as the scout team QB running against the first and second team defense all year. A 6-2, 205 pound dual threat QB is definitely something I’m okay with. The problem is everyone thinks Kyle McCord is going to pop up in portal every year now. Some of these kids may have experience but doesn’t mean they are good. So yeah I’m good with JW especially from what I have heard and seen

I’m good with whatever the coaches think. Not going to question two of the best recruiters in the country.

Now, if it was Dino making these decisions……. I wasn't wrong too often on those so called “diamonds in the rough” players we saw a lot. Also wasn’t too hard when their best offer was Colgate.

If these major programs are bringing in 4-5 star QBs every year, you will have some defections. Just look at Pitt this year. They had a Bama QB land in their lap. Do we not have a better chance of getting a Holstein in the portal vs straight from HS?

If you are a 4 star RS FR QB at Bama and then they give a hot shot HS QB a $2M per year NIL deal, you won't get a real chance at playing time. Going to SU especially after what McCord did here looks awfully tempting

Very curious what P4 QBs may be hitting the portal. GT booster who I know is terrified Haynes King is going to portal and end up at another ACC school.
That is the problem, college is unlimited free agency. It is just crazy.

Would love this kid but I wonder if he follows Jason Beck if he does officially end up at Utah.
He’s probably staying west coast but I’ve been watching lobos all year because of bronco and Beck, he’s fun to watch

What about Sluka? I don't care that he left UNLV because they promised him 100k, and they didn't deliver through their NIL...Write him a 300k check, and tell him he's the number 1; however, you are going to work into some of your preferred young guys into game action...He's a running QB, and the chance of injury is there...However, he's probably not an NFL guy...He's got the chance to make more on the top end with local commercials etc...If he gets hurt so be it...We have a brutal schedule...Also if McCord was able to come back, I'd be incredibly happy in spite of the schedule...Go Orange!

That team got so much better when they played a different qb. No thank you..

You didn't have to throw a stiletto at me, man.

That's literal violence.

For a message board.

And I was trying to help you find the love of your life in the other thread!
But it was a Prada, you should feel honored

Fran keeps a very tight lid on things. Id also be very surprised to see us spend a lot on a portal QB. If someone wants to come in and compete with Jakhari, that’s one thing. But it’s very unlikely we will spend big on a portal QB who needs a guarantee, nevermind one that’s never started. Kyle was a unicorn situation who will now pay dividends for years to come for us.
A Sluka for $150-200K might make sense as a competitor and a decent backup.

We were fortunate that Kyle never seemed to get too nicked up. In '25, do we get that? A Sluka would give us a chance to win some games.

I spoke to Diggs after the game yesterday and he said he’s definitely playing in the bowl game. I don’t think he will be the only one.
I was on a Miami board and their fans are saying all their NFL prospects are going to opt out of their bowl game. I am hoping the bowl organizers take this into consideration when picking teams.

Miami is going to be missing most of their best players and their fan base is greatly disappointed with the disastrous finish to the season. They expect to get curb stomped by whoever they play. Not sure they are or sure be really attractive to bowls.

I suspect he same will be true of Clemson to a somewhat lesser extent in the event they lose to SMU and become available as a bowl team.

Why is everyone not believing in Williams? Think Sellers was “ready” to play in sec right away? No chance but look what he did and how he performed as a true freshman. I think they are nuts if they don’t start JW
My rebuttal would be. Why are you so certain JW is ready? If the staff is out looking at portal qb’s as what is being speculated. Then they may think they can get someone better. Wouldn’t you trust the staffs evaluation of both JW and a potential transfer?

My guess. They trust JW but are never going to miss an opportunity to upgrade if they can.

Don’t you think that Coach Fran Brown has seen enough in practice?

Do we not trust what he sees at every practice?
That's early to say. If he doesn't take a QB the. It's safe to say that he believes we have someone currently in the roster to start. If he brings someone in that's a high profile guy then you also have your answer. I would expect you, based on your statement above, to then recognize that JW is perhaps not ready to start next year.

We are all speculating here and some may have bias towards a QB that can throw for 4000 yards next year because it just happened.

…….. no

We definitely need to bring in a QB whether JW is the man or not.

Johnson is an ok backup as is DRW, but neither is a starter. Beyond that it’s two true freshman, one can sling it (Carney) and one is a relative unknown (Belien).

If we’re going portal it should be for a kid who’s good enough to win the job and make the football team better. Otherwise don’t bother.

I'd take Sluka as an insurance policy
That's interesting, Mark. Why do you think he'd do well here? I get the NIL issue @ UNLV, but I think it would be a distraction that HCFB wouldn't want.

If he could start at UNLV he was (IMHO) better than all our 2nd stringers under Babers.

Tomcat is probably right, Sluka is going to try to find a low P4 or high G6 to start at...the kid obviously is looking for a payday after the UNLV debacle.
