NFL Draft Thread: Apr 24-26

So what teams might grab a QB in round four?

Raiders, Steelers, Jets, Bucs, Rams, Lions? Do Jags take a QB since sunshine is never healthy.

They also chase fads and follow trends. Obsession over mobile QBs and fast edges who can contain them. They ignored RBs for a while too. Things go in cycles. It’s unfortunate for Kyle because he’s not a fit for what a lot of teams want despite the fact that he can play and is incredibly coachable.

Sanders is also not mobile and isn’t as coachable so it’s not surprise he’s fallen. Shough just makes no sense to me given his age and accuracy issues. He’s just big and has some mobility so he checks the boxes.
Let's just wait and see what happens the rest of the draft before there's too much conspiracy talk.

I tend to agree that these front offices and guys making the picks would rather move with the herd than be out there taking chances early on.

66 of 102 guys drafted so far are from the SEC and BIG. B12 13 / ACC 11. Given the Super conference / farm league system emerging, when all these guys on the board start looking the similar they're just going to default to the top 2 conferences.

It what I said above they default to SEC, B1G and the star system. Teams lack true talent evaluators any more.

Sry missed that up higher. I will say this though watching alot of ACC games this year. There's not alot of defense and alot of our guys waiting are offensive weapons.

Cuts both ways I guess though. Were our guys great on offense last year because they really are great or because we played some weak defenses. I'm not sure I know either so I can't fault an NFL front office for saying ahh well we can't decide just take another dude from Ohio State and we can always trade him later for something else we missed.

Eagles have built their defense mainly grabbing SEC guys in the draft. I get that it seems biased in a way but if I’m a GM, one thing I’m looking for is a player that’s played against the top competition regularly. When you’re looking at a player from the SEC you know they’re consistently playing against guys that’ll be in the NFL. Especially in early rounds I’m not taking a risk on a B12 player that’s played 5 total games in their career against really good teams.

Georgia and Bama. That's who they target players from

Which of our players will go first now that Kyle has been overlooked thus far, as teams with a QB need have filled the position? My pick is Gadsden.

I was thinking the same thing. Much cheaper than signing a competent FA backup QB.

I would love for Kyle to go to the Bucs so I a keep track of him locally.
Danger in that is having Hunter and Sanders together. Might try to swing locker room away from Lawrence.

I always assumed one of those two would be the first from Cuse drafted. I still think it's Kyle but we'll see

I hope you are right as I think he is most deserving. The team that picks up Wax in the late rounds will be getting a steal. If not for the injury that held him back, he could have been our best prospect.

Didn't Sanders (or his Dad) say he wouldn't play for a cold city team if drafted by them? That applies to half the league. Let him go UDFA if he wants to pick his own team.

And in case anyone wants to now how consistent I am with this, I didn't like what Eli did to the Chargers way back when either.

I also can't help but to wonder what Deion has been doing since Thursday night; could he have called up GMs and demanded that they pick his son? I wouldn't put it past him.

I would say the best landing spot for him would be Dallas.

With Kyle not being drafted yet convinces me that the nfl can no longer talent evaluate especially at the qb position. It was becoming obvious with all the busts at qb and multiple positions. I remember the days when guys from small know name schools would get drafted high because teams had real evaluators that would scour film and turn over every stone looking for players. Now it seems they buy into the SCE B1G hype and the star system and then pat each other on the back and celebrate like they just made the pick of the century. It’s a joke.

The thing I find remarkable about Kyle still being on the board is his advanced metrics on his throws at the Senior Bowl and the Combine. 95th percentile of active NFL QBs in most of his stats. His accuracy is outstanding and he makes really quick decisions. He even throws a good deep ball. SMH

100% a Kellen Moore call on that pick. And shows he is over his head as an evaluator.

He benefited from coaching Dak, Stafford, and Hurts. He didn't have input on drafting any of those guys.

He is going to be a bust in New Orleans.
knock knock - Terry Fontenot.
I've lost my faith in humanity based on what he's done to the Falcons.

(and watching these goofs in the draft room high five after every pick is idiotic)

Its the drafting of no name CBs & 'edges' & guards over talent like Sanders & McCord that is a bit surprising to me.
Everybody has either an established QB or a young one they aren’t ready to move on from yet. All the overreaching the last few years has left no openings.

Even this year I think the QBs selected are a reach, including Ward.

it’s gone too far already. Sanders is better than most qbs taken (same for McCord imo). Sure there are distractions but that can happen almost everywhere across all pro sports.

If it becomes a problem you can move on. It’s worth the risk, he can play.

Ward
Dart
Sanders
McCord

Was my top 4 and pretty set on that.
But you aren't a pro at this. They are. Doesn't mean they are always right. They aren't. But they know a lot more than we do. And the reason isn't his dad.

It’s a weak QB draft overall and there aren’t a ton of teams dying for a QB. I’m hopeful McCord lands in a spot with an aging vet he can understudy with for a few seasons.

The Sanders are the Balls on steroids. Lonzo wasn’t brash and loud, his Dad took care of all of that. But, both Sanders are over the top and I can see a team not wanting that type of drama and energy being a distraction. The media is partly to blame and will look for any story and angle to enhance the drama. I’m fearful that Sanders might not get drafted at all the longer he is on the board. Who wants a projected 2nd or 3rd string quarterback being bigger than the team? It would be Manziel and Tebow on steroids, only difference is I believe both guys were first round picks.

no kidding I am posting on syrfan.com, same for you. If we appealed to higher authority every time there would be no reason for being a fan of sports.
